Sounds to me like you want it

I’m not dying to get it, I’d just like to get it off this farm before it’s wrecked, or they start stripping parts off it!
Honestly I don’t know what I would do with it, other than at least park it under cover, and fix what little it has for issues, which doesn’t appear to be much

Not sure in this case but it would probably be extremely difficult to do. DV 550s in the wild are as rare as hen's teeth. Probably one of the reasons why this one has a 436 in it. You also have to swap frame rails to go from inline engine to V-8 and vice versa.

From the description of this place. Im willing to bet damn good money that he bought it in this configuration. Guys like this would leave the tractor to rust in peace in the weeds rather than put the money and effort to swap out engines and frame rails. So the frame rails that were with it originally are no where near the farm and probably got scrapped a long time ago. Engine is probably long gone too.

What you have there is a 1566 with 1568 serial numbers. Its a 1566 in all intents and purposes with the afore mentioned parts MIA.

A number of years ago a black stripe 1568 sold at auction near me. 550 had put a viewing window in the block. The engine was long gone but he did have the V-8 frame rails in the barn. Was decaled as a 1566 after the retrofit.

Thanks for the insight, didn’t know all that.

I don’t think so? But you never know?!

Kinda sounds like your less costly option is you may as well overhaul the engine and just put it back in running condition.

I seen a very nice 1066 with a red cab yesterday sell a consignment auction sell for $10,500.All glass, doors, interior nice, AC,CB,good and what looked like original rubber. Front end not welded dual hyd and single piece drawbar

Was it one of those consignment sales that's mostly junk, that someone brings a shiny restored tractor to?

If so, I'd question whether it sold. Most of those get bid in.

$10,500 seems low pretty much anywhere right now, unless everyone was asleep.

No it, has junk but also new stuff, and  low hour stuff. Ride & drive too.No I bought and sold a lot of tractors of all brands, years in my day.It was a clean 10.I have several now and don't need another. From a estate, hour meter cover was faded and couldn't read hours. But was oil  black, frame nice ,paint was very good ,maybe a old paint job buy almost looked original too me. I think it was a honest tractor and sounded great with a factory muffler.

(Would have brought more if I was there.)

Although I don’t know why the hourmeter would be faded. All of the gauges on a cab tractor should look really nice.

Yea I kinda thought the same but didn't know if sat  somewhere where and the sun came through the glass and magnified it.But I have a 1066,always sat in a shed since new ,no cab.I am second owner and the tach is real hard to read.It hasent even been out of the shed since February. Plus my eyes aren't the best anymore in poor light. It was a nice 10 but in my area most farmers want newer tractors, CVT,etc and most part timers are JD guys.

Not to be "That Guy", but with the history of this tractor uncertain,  could it have always been a 1566?  The original engine replaced with one with the intercooler and the TA housing replaced with one from a 1568 that was already salvaged out?      That is the fun part of old tractors, nobody knows! Either way, still a neat machine.

I really don’t know?? I always wondered why it didn’t have Turbo decals on the hood! Well being a 68 might make sense?? I don’t know? 4850 hours on the tach, but I know, tachs don’t always tell the full story, and maybe it doesn’t work.  I don’t know? It looks to legit to be a piece together?

Where things go to die. Thought you talking about my place. I’d try to get it bought. We won’t find many like this anymore.  Run it as is. Put a 7.3 or 3208 in it and keep your eyes peeled for a 550. My luck is talk to him today and next week it’s on a trailer going by my place for less money!

I just instinctively assumed this thing was east of 35, lots of places over there that could fit the farm description.

No, this one is actually only about 10 miles from me!

I hear some rumors about a 1066, 1468, and other possible IH’s at a place east of 35, I may have to investigate that place
