KY2674
Anyone know where to find a front crank seal? Haven't taken apart yet but is slinging a lot of oil from behind the PTO clutch. Everything on the internet says not available.
515Dave
That’s the rear seal. Engines in cubs are installed backwards. It’s Kohler Part # KH-X-583-5 and should be available pretty much anywhere.

Did a little more searching and figured that out.
Mr. Plow
Just did one...... Clean the seal bore with a cotton swab and alcohol then right before you install the seal (5/32" seat depth) put a bead of gel control super glue on the outer circumference of the seal (glue it into the bore). 90% of the seal failures on Kohler twins are because they push the seal out of the bore. Gluing them in helps...a lot! The one that went south on mine was actually making a chugging noise at idle from sliding back and forth in the bore. Don't forget to reset the air gap on the PTO clutch.... .010"-.012" 1

This is the seal that failed in Tammies tractor the first time we put a plow on it. I set the plow up and she made one pass before it blew out on the headland.😁😆
