Farmall M input seal

Guy at work just asked me..Can ya replace the transmission input seals thru the belly pump hole without splitting the tractor? Can't remember..... help appreciated..

That's something I'd never attempt ,I find much easier to split it and work standing up instead of looking up thru a hole with dirt , grease and grime falling in your face, But to each their own

Yes, once you remove the yoke #49you can unbolt bearing plate #47 and replace the seal.p/n #43359d . I used a skf 20702 . if you need a speedie sleeve the p/n is 99205. and the gasket p/n 47916d or 1342397c1

On my 1941 H, it had like aluminum/magnesium seal carriers on both the input shaft (47) and belly pump drive.

After I removed the seal, the new one just fell in to the seal carrier.

It appeared the carrier expanded, over time, due to the interference fit of driving the seal in.

I went to the junk yard and found cast iron carriers and the seal went in the way they should, nice and tight.

Both old seals were CH (Chicago Rawhide) seals that were original.

The new seals are of course rubber and will not last near as long as the old ones.
