1456 at auction today

Must have had a cab at some point in its life.  Notice no grab handles around the gear shift levers or the T. A. lever, and also the cab style PTO engagement lever.

Must be fun boarding that thing without those grab handles. I always reached for that grab handle around the gear shift levers or T. A. lever when boarding my open station ‘56 or ‘66 series IHs.

Probably nobody should be allowed to have tools as everyone has done something objectionable to a piece of equipment at some point in their lives.

Axle cutting, you might not like it but it's usually a necessary evil. Wipe out enough doorways, you'd get the gas axe out too. Sometimes you just don't have the luxury of a 16' wide opening or you need to get up close to a wall for loader work. That's why the previous owner of Dad's 656 cut the axles. He at least tried to grind them smooth and make them look presentable. The axles on the 756 stick out a couple inches and Dad got hung up in the pen more than a couple of times because of it. Give 'er a little "scooch" to flip the manure into the bucket, tractor slides sideways, and now you're stuck behind the pole.

I won't condemn the guy that cut the axles, he could have de-burred them a bit though. P.O. cut the axles on my 856, wish he would have left them a little longer, room for a dual hub would be great. It may get a set from a donor at some point in the future.

Price seems plenty high to me but not totally out of line in today's market.

More cab tractors than open around here. They're well before my time, but I'd say from the 56 series on cabs were pretty standard up here. Just going on my observations

Same here.  Most 06-66 series had cabs in the Siberia of the lower 48.  A lot of them were aftermarket, but cabs were the norm.

I thought the heat from torches would damage or take the strength out of the axle. But maybe I am wrong.I shortened a 1135 Massey axles once for a guy that didn't want to pay fora permit.I had to travel through 3 states to deliver it plus I over the notorious scales south of  Winchester ,VA  on 81.I used a chop saw and they came out nice.If you wanted them to look real decent, I think you could have beveled the edges some.

Hard to figure. One of my two 1970 1456s I used to own had the Diamond cab on it. It did not have the grab handles around the gear shift levers or the T. A. lever.

But back when I was in high school the farmer I worked for bought a brand new 966 with the Diamond cab on it. I was with him at the dealer when he bought it on the lot. It did have the grab handles on both sides even though it came with a cab.

The "nothing special" is a Gold Demo 1456, factory open station with 24.5x32s. Someone got a great buy on that 1456. Buyers were asleep on that one. Im sure itll pop up repainted within a year or 2. Be interesting to see if it keeps the 24.5x32s or if they sell them off. Very sought after wheel and tire combo. Seller never knew what he really had. Bet he lost out on $15-20k by not knowing.

With those tires I bet they only cut off an inch or two

Apparently they ran into them too often. Or in our case widened the shed door unplanned like we did with a 1466 and a new shed.
