Hey, Hardtail, I know exactly where that business was! Before my time though. Portland ME, their historical archives says that picture was from right around 1936. Building is still there, but offices now. It is right around the corner from where my ex-brother in law lives, and no, I have not driven by it for over 10 years. I love the trolley tracks in the street, which looks like cobblestone.

A logger here used to have the exact same Chev truck but with a Barko loader.  Used to get a sore neck loading. Before the days of operator seat mounted on the turntable.

Now THATS quite a picture. 1930's early 40's ? Look at the cabs on those crawlers. Just a guess- owner on the left, 2 salesmen and 2 mechanics. Thanks for posting this George.

I think the pic might be a bit later, 40's?

I thought the TD's pictured came out in 39, that model Adams grader looks very similar to mine but I can't make out the model #, sure looks nice in new condition all of them

Taken off the web. First one is local- we used to have 2 sideloading log trucks exactly the same style but newer trucks (1955-R170 and 1959-BCF180 IH tandem trucks). Second picture is in Northern Ontario and it looks like a TD9 pushing the sleigh(?)

I would say yes, the only model we didn't own at one time was a TD9, I think the Adams might be a 511, very little info on them considering how many were produced.

Tough scrapping after a rain

A D9G with single hyd. ram push dozer & a D8K help a fleet of 6 Euclid/Terex TS-24 twin engine scrapers load out in this 1 million cu. yd. earth cut on const. for the new I-93 in Waterford-St. Johnsbury, VT. June 1982

I doubt that those are wheels under the sleigh- more likely the ends of the bunks. No need for wheels when you have ice and snow. They actually had a sleigh with a water tank on it (wooden) that watered the roads to make the sleighs slide easy. On hills- they either sanded them by hand or had a "crazy wheel" at the top with a chain/cable to hold the loaded sleigh back when going down.

On the RockBuster's web site there is a close up photo of a Adam's grader that one is 610 and it is a dual stacker so that one is a bigger grader so the one in the group photo as far as I can tell may be a 311 or 312

Two of the crawlers in the photo in front  of Maine Truck-Tractor appear to be snow plows.

Both have town names on them, Oxford and Kittery 

Maine Truck-Tractor was dealer for Sargent plows made by The Portland Company

Notice the grousers cut for ice use.

 

Here is a TD-35 with a Sargent plow on it.

This TD-35 is being restored

They must be using 1,000 hp to get that loaded, maybe more?
