Splitting Stand 1468

Recommended Posts

I'm getting ready to split my 1468.  The frame rails do not have any bolt holes to secure splitting jacks.  My IH manual says to attach adapter plates FES 142-2 to the frame rails.

Does anyone have photos they could share of how they fabricated brackets to attach to the frame rails, or what FES 142-2 adapter plates look like. (the photos in my manual are to dark to see detail)

I am sure I can fabricate something, but sometimes it helps to see other good ideas.

Thanks.

The last one I split I used a hoist(forklift) and hooked chains under the framerail since it didn't have holes. Obviously the adapter plates are the right way to do it just this was another way to do it.

OK stupid question time from someone who’s never been around 1468s. Or 1568s.

What is THEE reason that the ‘68 series V-8 frame rails are a different design from the ‘66 series frame rails anyway?

Surely it isn’t to provide greater strength coming from a more powerful more torquey V-8 engine, since the ‘66s with their in line 6 torque could lay a can of whoop a_s on the V-8s anyway? So what’s the deal with the different style frames?

To accommodate the WIIIIIIDER V8 engine.

Funny part is the pictures I'm finding show plenty of holes in the frame back towards the bell housing.

Think I had understood that they were made from cast to make up for some of the weight lost to the v8 motor. Or at least was one reason I heard.

If I remember what I read correctly, as well as being wider, the block of the V-8 wasn't strong enough to be structural like the inline engines so they had to build a different frame to support it.
