AKwelder
Well I always said I wasn’t getting things done because I don’t have a shop, so now I got a shop. No more excuses First, the 460 needs work. I am debating either a tune up or added pertronix to her, thoughts? and who has the best ignition parts for the old gal, with shipping? hardtail
I'm not sure "good" ignition parts exist anymore, always been a fan of the stock system but you will probably get a lot of positive Pertronix feedback
bitty
I've got many pertronix kits , plugs and wires from Brillman corp

bitty
I always get a hot coil along with all the other stuff
DT Fan
Even with the E.I. you still need a good cap and rotor. Echlin from Napa is about as good as you'll find today. Brillman might have something similar?
AKwelder
I was going to call them and get it all, EI, wires, cap, rotor, plugs, resistor, and probably a coil. If I do it I might as well do it right the first time.
AKwelder
Well things are out of order. Time to work on something My big truck, a 94-1/2 F250 power-stroke with a manual tranny needs the tranny fixed. Gears are getting hard to get into, and 2nd gear is about impossible to shift into. Well I started by getting a manual, and ordered a few tools. I have access to a rebuildable core, and I might do that.
AKwelder
While I am ordering tools, what tools are needed to rebuild the Torque amplifier on my 460? Any special pullers, collets or drivers? then a clutch and new IPTO drive shaft
Diesel Doctor
Nothing really special for tools on a 460 TA. Just two splits and having the center section on a heavy duty engine stand makes things nicer.
AKwelder
Well my first project I have been putting off is the manual tranny in my powerstroke diesel. It was a real bugger to get into 2nd gear. Ended up buying a few tools, having some help, borrowing a few tools and tearing it apart hmmmm. Throw out bearings appear different having problems with the rear seal and one of the bolts to the rear idler gear. Cracked the t-case open and I was surprised it was still working. Oil pick up was full of RTV. so I ordered a rebuild kit for that. and since it was out I picked up u-joints. and I am having more issues getting a rear seal into it.
AKwelder
Got the T-case back together working on the turbo up pipes now. Exhaust bolts with bad access. What can go wrong
AKwelder
Well, This has become project sensuous. since I had the tranny out, I fixed the up pipe gaskets. It’s the time to do it. Broke a bolt off in the Y pipe collector, so I ordered a new one Since the Y pipes were off it was the perfect time to drill and tap a pyrometer into the exhaust and be able to clean out all the shavings since the tranny was out I rebuilt the transfer case since I had the drive shafts out I might as well replace the U joints and since it’s in the shop I might as well deal with the power steering then I went to warm up the 460 for some snow removal and saw this it goes on the hitch I think I will get that fixed here soon

AKwelder
1 hour ago, bitty said: At least you found the broken bolt before more broke Very true. Walking by the tractor I see the bolt hanging out of the left casting that supports the fast hitch. And if it had cracked the casting? Ouch
560Dennis
I’m an old fudge dud. if point and condenser were good enough for engineering at ih good enough for me. I can’t see where the pay back is yet . Points and condenser are 20 bucks and petronix are 125 and I got the tools to change the points and the manual to change points . I also static time my super c , put it in number tdc one , turn ignition on, loosen lock bolt, rotate distribution till I hear the points open. Lock it down , starts so fast blow your hat off between old guy can’t back away if I have my grandson pulls the trigger on starter if I’m down there at distribution. He’s got a laugh out of that one !

AKwelder
Well I drove the truck for a few days and it appears to be as it should, also got some gauges installed in it. Now I need to check the PCM number and order new injectors and a hydra Since we have a few driveways to keep open in the winter, it’s time for a plow truck. Well I have an old dependable work truck, and I found a Fisher plow with engine hydraulics for a good price now I need to give her some TLC, and then figure out this puzzle anyone happen to have the bracket for a fisher pump to mount to a 7.3 idi? AKwelder
Well, picked up my new backup generator and got the daughters Subaru in to the shop. Turns out there was a story that leads to extreme overfilling the engine with oil. The intake had puddles of oil in any low spots. Oil everywhere. After a compression test, I pulled the motor. pulled the heads off since it was out, will check them and clean it up and maybe reassemble
hardtail
One good job getting the genny, think the Subuaru have head issues as a common complaint, have been following Jim's Automotive for awhile on u tube and seems like that was a common problem, good luck, we don't have to ask VT what he thinks of them, I had an old Legacy wagon that I drove to 400K and voluntarily retired, it was the easiest vehicle I ever had to change oil, laid down in front of the bumper and oil and filter hit the same spot without re positioning, it did have external leaks that would rival the Valdez which was unusual for a Japanese product
