ACcrazy
Good morning, gentlemen! Been quite a while since posting. Hope you are all doing well in this upside-down clown world we now find ourselves in. Okay, I have been offered a TD6 that supposedly runs well, and everything works. It is equipped with a pretty nice hydraulic blade with manual angle ability. It hasn't run in about a year. The owner installed a new cap, rotor and plug wires but was unable to get spark at the plugs. It was however, sparking at the points. When he spun it over, the engine sounded like it had good, even compression on all cylinders. All the controls move freely. My questions are, how to determine what year it is and what would be a fair price? *EDIT*-- I see the serial number will determine the year. Hopefully it will be legible and intact. Thanks guys. Rawleigh99
The serial number tag on the IH's is usually near your left foot.

ACcrazy
Sorry for the late reply, lost my internet and just switched providers and finally got back on. This machine would definitely be just a hobby tractor, used to maintain a steep logging road on my property behind my house. So, approximately, what would scrap plus $1500 work out to? I have no idea what scrap even goes for at the moment.
louie figone
AC, in the Bay Area I was told $50.00 a ton two weeks ago. That tractor looks to be a narrow gauge (40-inch center to center), probably not a good choice if you are working in steep country, look for a wide gauge (50-inch)

DieselSmokeDangerousCurves
AC our scrap here is about $150 to $200 a ton. If you can get it for under $1000, Youll be ok. If it is not running you will need a manual. there are ones online for free. you'll need patients and time If your mechanically able as well as welding skills. I'm trying to find a blade like the one your looking at. If your not going to buy the unit, I'd be interested. Hopefully you will make the deal and help preserve another of these old girls. They are a blast to own and use. many of the motor parts are the same as a Farmall MD400. Good Luck
ACcrazy
Okay, thanks guys. mmi--I re-read your response and get it now. lol. Sorry. Scrap or plus or minus $1500. Based on what you guys have said, I'm going to pass. He wants WAY more than your estimates. Offered it for $6000 but will take $5000. lol. I'm really glad I checked with you gentlemen first. Thank you.

Thank you. Yes..that is a bunch of money....and from the pictures provided, I can assure you that the pin and bush group have about done their dash... ..I believe the other TD 6 recently talked about on this site, the TD with the homemade bull blade assembly, was a far better prospect in so many ways.... The blade set up ,although non factory, was light years ahead of that traditional load of pig iron that the pictured above machine was wearing..... DieselSmokeDangerousCurves
AC, $6000 is nuts. I know a guy in Wisconsin that has one way cheaper. it runs and drives but has a different motor now. If you are interested let me know and i will contact him on a price. see what that guy would want just for the blade assembly. mine has a blade but is mounted to a loader. i cant push to much for fear I will bend the rams or loader arms. Appreciate the offer but I'm sure it would cost a fortune to get it out here. Pretty sure the guy wants to sell it complete. It really wouldn't do him any good without the blade. He's supposed to get back with me once he gets it running again, but I have not heard anything from him yet. If he does get back with me, I'll ask about the blade.
