Sway limiter on older IRISH

Recommended Posts

I cultivate with my 856 and put the add on sway limiters that are plates that bolt to the drawbar. I have already broken one torque tube and now it is leaking out the torque tube. It seems like these limiters put too much stress at the base and problems are going to arise. Does anyone make any type of sway limiter that comes down from the axle and attaches to the lift arm out closer to the end of the 3 point? I'd like something like on our New Holland or JX100U.

They had cam limited sway limiters available for the 66+86 series. Not sure if one from a 986 would fit ? It's not in my knowledge arena

Does your cultivator have the large alignment disk on it to keep it straight ahead. If so either they have to be removed or let the hitch float. You will keep on breaking stuff. Ours had two and the biggest thing we were told when we bought it was once you get it on the row don't look back again.

Contrary to popular belief,  you actually want more sway movement when the cultivator is down. If the 3 point is locked tight, any steer tire movement gets transfered to the cultivator. Sounds to me like you need more movement, you need to let the cultivator float around more.

One time a old timer who farmed lots of dryland was giving his helpers a lecture as the drill rows were not straight. He said you can not make a straight row with a stiff hitch. I tried it and sure enough it works on drawbar implements. I do not know about 3 point things though. But if your cultivator is set good it shouls follow the furrow or ridge
