Got a new handle for the draught fridge... beat the truck last night. Pulling the tranny rn to fix the release bearing free play issue, got a larger clutch master cylinder also to shorten the pedal travel up. Took a few friends for rides last night. I think buddys wife may have popped off! She’s running real good, just have to sort out the detail stuff but nothing has given me any issue (knock on wood). Someone already interested in buying the engine, got two guys coming to look at forklifts too. That should Put a smile on the banks face as it’s mortgage renewal time for me. The pictures of the blower just don’t do it justice. It’s E F F ING UUUUUUGE!!! I’m going to put a mock up engine on the stand to set it on with the zoomies and hab-dab to get a better idea how the boats going to look. Haven’t even been home 24 hrs yet and at it hard b’ys.
AngrySailor
Tranny out. I used to be able to do it in 13 mins including jacking the truck up. Now I’m old and fat.
jeeper61
Nice tapper handle Putting that blower on a mock up will give everyone an idea of how big those are a lot bigger than the oem type blowers like my MP-112
AngrySailor
Round two... tranny out again. Got it all back in and working mint. Changed the clutch master and get the pedal stroke better but I didn’t realize it was stroking that much more. I adjusted it to where it released and gave it a little extra. Think I extended the cylinder to the point the o ring came out of the bore enough to split. Can’t get parts for this quick. Found a boring right size and got it soaking in brake fluid to see how it reacts. If it’s ok tomorrow might slam it in, order the right one change it later. Pretty easy to haul the tranny out of this thing. Was even easier when I was 22...
DT Fan
The downside of a tap-handle like that one is the frequency you will have to change kegs!!! Had a keg fridge years ago, then the price of keg beer got higher than cans so no point in that. Still have all the stuff and there is an IPA that I really like. If I can get it, even in small barrels, will set up a fridge in the new shop. Still a year or more out on that, stay tuned. Would be nice to have this all worked out before I 'retire', spring of '26.

It is. I had a 73 nova, it was rough shape. Never got it on the road. That would be a fun car with a 402. got a ‘64 olds in the shop for some engine work, he’s got cam/lifter issues and wants a carb swap. He knows the 454 is for sale, maybe I should have a “miscommunication” and install it for him 😆 It’s a 394 oldsie, first pic I searched for cam up with Hilborn injection and a blower. Maybe that’s what he wanted? Cool guy but don’t think he wants that much go go sauce. slapped the GMC logo on the truck finally. Been missing since ‘97. Was hard to find back then and I can’t paint... 4

AngrySailor
Working on the oldsie today, been terrorizing town since Thursday with the big block and I’m already the go to guy for classic cars 😆 friend of a friend sent this fella, 64 Oldsmobile, 394ci. Got camshaft issues. Going to measure lobe lift tomorrow to verify the cam is wiped out but it’s wiped out... see what he wants to do about it. I’ll slam a new cam in but no warranty without going through the engine. It was towed here I’ve never even seen it run and all that metal didn’t go to a parallel dimension... I would asume it happened over time so they were likley small particals and all the bearings are scored Could be from using modern oil in a flat tappet motor Might run for a minute might run 10 years
Gearclash
I’ve been seeing a lot of rumbles lately about toasted flat tappet cams. I’d be real suspicious of one of two things 1) oil with ZDDP levels too low or 2) oil that has an antiwear additive other than ZDDP, as such things are coming due to the enviros tweaking out over zinc and phosphates.
AngrySailor
That’s exactly the issue is the oil. I run VR1 which has ZDDP even though I’m running a roller cam it helps the extreme pressure load carrying ability of the oil. So it’s some government holiday for the Indians today... must be a cruel joke cuz they closed the liquor store! stopped and seen pops for a bootleg box of Quebec beer. He’s making good progress on his building. Of course I had to leave the first Mark!
AngrySailor
That old TOWMOTOR I worked on is back. Broke a valve spring. POS is whipped. Guides were loose and wasn’t in the budget to do them. Full of condensation so the springs rust and break. Just happen to have a replacement in stock in a Saturday so she’s getting a sling slapped in and sent down the road. Poor thing needs a full rebuild...
