AngrySailor
Airport security must have had a hay day with my bags. Everything inspected, bet that toroidal transformer had them sweating bullets! Fairly bomb like looking! Anyways doesn’t seem they damaged anything and the inspection cards all specify no items illegal or removed. Bet they don’t get half a BBC come through the X-ray machine very often😅 1

AngrySailor
SOB! My friend called me said one of his numpties put DEF in the diesel tank of his new duramax. Asked if I’d fix it, of course I said NO! Well lookie what just got dropped off in front of my shop 🤬 Working on the 496 lifter bores. Using a custom reamer I had ground to open them to 0.903” then finish hone to 0.9055”. There’s a non cutting pilot that guides in the existing bore snug to keep things straight. This is the one with the BIG bump stick and Merlin aluminium heads. Made just shy of 800hp on the dyno. 796 I think, couldn’t quite push it over 800. This cam is a little more lift and duration and she’s getting the Hilborn injection so she should be 800+ now. Oh I bumped the compression from 10.5;1 to 11:1 too. Big big big block!
AngrySailor
496 Rough lifter bores done, I had honed a couple earlier and they fit but I’m not happy with the cylindricallity or however you want to call it... left them tight for buddy to true up to final clearance. Cleaning up the rods and packing things up to go for sizing Tuesday. I guess I could wait till my sunnen is here but puts me behind a week. I have two weeks as of Monday to build the ‘54 engine and have it running... both engines need rod/pin sizing might as well let biddy do it.
AngrySailor
Slammed the caps on with the old bearings. Dial bore gauge set to 2.749” and IF that’s the cranks actual size I’m only reading 0.002” clearance. WAY too tight for this application... no wonder she’s trying to eat herself...

Is that John Deere yellow ? how straight is that ? Align bore is needed ? Just a question!

Cylindricality i.e. the roundness of a cylinder is what is needed on bores by themselves Concentricity would be the positional relationship between multiple bores like all the crank bores He needs to get more clearance so align bore is needed

Think it’s cat yellow as it was in the boat, needed yellow for the “look” but never liked that yellow. It’s straight but too tight. Needs a line hone to reduce bearing crush and increase clearance. 31 minutes ago, jeeper61 said: Cylindricality i.e. the roundness of a cylinder is what is needed on bores by themselves Concentricity would be the positional relationship between multiple bores like all the crank bores He needs to get more clearance so align bore is needed That issue is with the lifter bores, the ones I tried to hone with my rig are ever so slightly “barrel” shaped. They’re not cylindrical. Buddy has the proper hone to correct that.
