Ahh fudge. I got this flex drive I cut off an old shiddy spring hone I was going to use (still am) but I looked quick and thought it was 1/2-13, drilled the hole and the bugger is 7/16-14.  It’s all together and adjusting now, I think maybe a Belleville spring might help on the loaded side of the adjuster to allow some Preload of the stones.

so I tried it by hand in a lifter bore and I’m. It sure I like it... can’t stroke as deep as I’d like (harr harr have at me fellas) and it’s suck a short bore it would be easy to side load things. It may be that the mandrel and stones aren’t seated to this bore size. I think I’m going to machine a couple rings with an ID of 0.905” which is basically my desired finish size and hone them to dress and seat the stones and mandrel to that bore size... only got one shot to not mess this up then I’m into big indicating and bronze lifter bushings...

Urggggg got a friends little outboard for his oyster fishing rig. Froze the lower unit. Welded not bad, sometimes these don’t take weld very well, the bigger was I had to be sure I got full penetration where the two o-rings land and buff out the inside. One seals water from the outside and the other seals the exhaust housing also from external sea water. Had to make sure the crack was gone completely in those two areas or it would seep past the o-rings. Pain in the butt and I’m super rusty with the TIG.

ST approves this post...

out in the sled tonight. Got a good blast of snow, decent going. Looks like my ‘ronAIDS vacation is coming to an end... entertaining a job offer. Guy called, no interview, no questions other than “when can you start”...  sheiit but it’s hard to pass on. 6 weeks on 6 weeks off. Top $ for the position... damn I love being closer to home though...

Seeing that rod failure reminds me -- I have an engine in my shop at the moment that suffered a rod failure long ago.  Got fixed up and put back to work.  Engine is going to get parted out so I will try to post pictures of the carnage once I get that far.

Yeah that was the first bridge I crossed with them, “do you require proof of jibby jabs”. NO was the answer. Well we’re full of cold snacks and shack food. Time to make for home base.

Yeah I remember you had custom pistons made for that. Have you got that running? I don’t recall seeing if you had? I bet that’s the the only Fordson with wiseco pistons? Did you have the dome made any larger? I think they’re under 6:1 depending on the head, you could bring that up a good bit running on today’s even regular gasoline. Flat heads are a bugger to build Compression in though, you have the area over the valves and if you close the chamber up between the cylinder and valves you quickly reach diminishing returns as you restrict the flow down into/out of the cylinder...

Got the Fordson  running January 2021 , with the help of my son and grandson , was a tearful experience , because my mom and dad didn’t see it . But it been a blessing taking it to shows and hearing the stories people tell me . Nothing but good things

have happened since. Thanks for your help !

Added The Farmall  C with corn planters in photo replaced the Fordson in 1948 when Fordson through a rod digging out the basement under the farmhouse in Conneaut.

That’s amazing Dennis, so glad it came together for you. Never realized you may be near Conneaut? I get there on the ships now and then.

St paddy’s day, cold snacks at the legion. All the girls are dancing. Scenery is decent, cold snacks are cold! What more could a fella ask?

Been to all those ports, probably had a cold snack in all them too!

well this is it fellas, last day home for ST and now me. We fly out tomorrow morning, sheiit! Going to be a bit of a shock to the system going back on watches. It’s not a bad job really but I really don’t like the travel days or being away from home. When I travel around here it’s in a ten mile radius, there’s a road south of me I consider the line in the sand, if I go south of there there must be a reason and I’m probably not keen on it!  Going to tie up a few loose ends in the shop today and pack my bags.

Yeah, six weeks. I’ll be able to post some ship pics, usually have some phone service on the regular. On the way to the airport now, they’ll probably want me to wear a cuck mask...

Good luck!  Look forward to hearing from you later.  What kind of ship are you on?

She’s an articulated tug and barge. Tug is around 130’ and the barge is 600 or so? I’m I’m two stroke diesel heaven though... two V20 EMD’s, two 8v71 generators. 371 emergency generator then a pair of 3412 CAT’s (yuck) for unloading generators on the barge.

My bad, the cute little emergency genny is a 271. Wonder if there’s and extra air starter in the scrap bin...

So my first day is in. Started out just after 7 in the galley for breakfast. Didn’t know what time we started day work, asked the chief, “hey chief what time we starting?”  “It’s Steve”. “ok Steve what time you want us starting?”  “You see a punch clock anywhere? Come down whenever you want and if you don’t nobody’s coming looking for you”... so after that conversation we messed around a little, tested the radio back up batteries and emergency genny batteries. Drank some coffee, shot the sheiit some. Then I asked to leave early as I had a ride available to pick up a mattress cover as it’s pretty hard, he said “**** yeah, don’t even ask just go”.  Think these guys are alright so far...  ST’s all excited as I’m picking her up from her first shift back to work for a short visit possible cold snack before returning to the boat. Oh and the chief mate just called and said he’ll be watching tv till 6am just call his cell when I need the gangway down or comeback tomorrow or whatever. Can’t believe how laid back this deal is...
