Barn Find Bootleg Car

My grandmother had a Fury 3, dad hated it, said it rode like a boat and it cornered like a house. They didn’t last long around here, grandpa used to refer to her getting “swap fever” whenever the ashtray was full. But the reality was that a car had holes in it by the time it was 3-5 years old, and granny always had to keep up with her sisters, who always had to one up the other.

Very cool

I can "hear" that first picture!

Two window cranks on each door?

That is a new one to me.

Yes, the vent window cranked out as well as the main window moving up/down.

You are young?

PS: I hope the owner keeps it this way.

Maybe a paint job and an interior fix.

Was the still setting in the barn next to the car?

I just rolled out from under a K2500 Suburban, I know I am old but, dam#  should be able to put exhaust pipe donuts on the 454 engine. Ever pipe under the 4x4 has hit the trail more than once and is warped in multiple dimensions. I do not own a MIG so no ability to cut and splice pipes. Did gas for many years but the price of gas and worn out mechanicals sent it to the scrap heap.

Taking a break from the heat, in the COLD computer room.

I'll bet I am the only person on RP that has owned a 59 Desoto, tri color, 4 door, push button shifted, 727 3 speed and a 361 with a 2 barrel. (YEP, crank out vent windows)   I spent the night, labor weekend in 1965 sleeping on the large rear seat in the Desoto in Grand Canyon National Park. That was a good example of the good old days.  No one requires disk brakes or all the smog crap to have a cheap weekend outing , whole trip food and gas was less than $100. From San Diego, to Casa Grande AZ to Grand Canyon and back to San Diego back in 65.  I just recalled that I did have a recapped tire that had tread separate n the Phoenix 109F heat on that trip. Not a blow out just a bumpy ride.

Back to the K2500!

I know a  middle aged woman who drives an srt? Charger with the big hemi. She's quite a woman and it's a fast powerful car. She avoids tickets by working as a dispatcher for the sheriff's department! She often dates deputies... she's a firecracker.

Damn ole' great story, me 2, 1970, mom and I left bc going to Frisco in our brand new corolla, 1200 cc with a 2 spd auto, slept in it one night, did frisco for 2 days and headed home slept in her one night going home, heading up the siskiyous we did 20 mph but raised helll down sides.

1975 by myself, again off to frisco but this time on a bike, Yamaha 400 enduro, google it and see why I should have had head examined, slept under trailers at truck stops and went to one 6 in town and spent 2 days and headed home, again truck stop sleepovers, we've done dozens of trips all over hellls half acre but those two still make us laff.

Your push button shifter was that the steering wheel access?

A friend of mine's uncle used to be friends with Junior Johnson.  He would go down to visit a couple of times a year.  Always brought back some good shine when he returned!  He was a '40 Ford expert and restored any number of them, so they had that in common!

The push button shifter on all Chrysler products was on the left dash at the windshield corner. The only car in the USA that I know of that had a horn-button shifter available was the Ford Edsel.

Someday my wife and Iwant to take a sabbatical to travel the world. We want to take a sailboat and go everywhere we want to and can get there by sailboat. @mike newman You are high on the list!

Back on topic. Mom had a 68 Plymouth Fury III. It was just a 318 2bbl but it would move. i barely rember a trip we made before the double nickle was forced on us. we were out west on the open road. i was standing in the back holding on to the back of the front seat. I looked at the speedometer and  dad was crusing over 120 mph. it was just floating along down the straight flat highway. he kept that speed up out in the country when there was no traffic. if there was traffic or we came upon a town he slowed down.  Most areas out west were open road back then,  no speed limit.

still have the fury out behind the house.  Its not bad but down on the project list for now.

Reminds me off all the Albertans visiting our beautiful neighboring province BC all driving at 80mph, you can look at the beauty out the window but it's a speedway mentality that we bring with us...doesn't really make sense

Maybe straightaway because whenever I saw the old yellow Alberta plates in the canyon slow was the only word that came to mind.
