Feeling good!

After many months my T340 started and ran for a few minutes this morning. Getting the ceiling up in the shop got in the way some. Then I had those medical issues a couple of months ago. Had it apart for a water pump and wiring. Not done but getting close! The only down side is the couple of months on heavy medical restriction and I'm lacking in upper body strength and my stamina isn't where I'd like it to be. Hope the have the T340 back outside and usable by tomorrow evening. The next on the block is the Ford 800. Then the 1947 7u D4 Cat. The 800 has a governor issue and the Cat needs some work on the pony engine plus the hydraulic pump leaks. I did get an old Wheel Horse D200 back in operation. Had a gas tank issue and sat for several years. Wiring was trashed. The D series WH was kinda big for it's day. Tipped the scales at about 1200 pounds give or take. At the time the "other" big garden tractors were about 800 pounds. I'll try to get a few pictures up over the next couple of days.

Guys, speaking from experience, when down physically you have to get back up! You also have to know your limits. I can work 2-4 hours but that's it. If I push it I'm down for 2-3 days. I'll build back up. Just gonna take time.

Be well and safe my friends....and adversaries.

Your doing twice as well as me.

Sorry to hear that. You just gotta fight back as best you can. Just turned 67. I was shocked when after my little medical emergency a couple of months ago when my doc told me "you are old and need to slow down". Then even more when my wife twisted that knife in my back and agreed with the doc. Heck to be honest just a few months ago I was looking at guys my age and thinking "old Far# needs to get out of the way". Now all of a sudden I realize I'm he!

11 years your senior. I accept I can't do what I used. The mean part is the thinker don't work as it used to either. Still trying though.

I hear what your saying loud and clear! Towards the end of my baler project June of 2021 , I could tell something was happening  to my stamina, breathing ,patients.

I hurried to finish, thinking I was just getting older and after two years of hard work at project I was getting tired.

Well, got her done just before leaving for RPRU in Du Quine end of june into July did not feel right feeling horrable but had no reason though all I needed was a vacation , RPRU and trip went well had good time but fought, little stamina and lack of enthusiasm on everything because of being tired all the time.

Week after home from RPRU was taken to ER with A Fib which I had never had, that I was aware of , Hospital four days , lot of meds added , thought I was okay but kept getting dizzy and having A fib events. December 14th pass out at home coughing ,back to ER Severe Double Pneumonia ,in covid ward for a week ,even though I tested negative for Covid , for two days in hospital I thought I was gone !  Sent home week later with all oxygen equipment , on oxygen 6 weeks at home , Starting to get moving, Cordiologist says A Fib is bad need Ablation back to heart hospital Feb 28 ,2022.

Made it, but my stamina goes from about 9am to 3pm with lot of little rests in-between  and then I need a nap or two ,if I am standing on cement i fade fast, but I keep plenty of chairs in Shop !  Here I am 76 and Doc is saying from what I went through It will take at least a year to recoup stamina !

Going to try RPRU again this year going by MH will carry oxygen with us just in case , My wife enjoys driving as I do ,so we will divide the duties .

Oldtanker, lets keep pushing because our window of opportunities is gradually closing , Covid shutdown took two years off our retirement activities and now we have to  push ,not too hard but like they say in the MH adds ROUGHING IT SMOOTHLY.

Best to you ! remember, 67 and 76 is still young , I keep praying for quality till 86 Will see what God thinks .lol

I am sorry to hear of your trials Anson.

There are quite a few rigs around here but don't know offhand of anyone with extra.

I will ask around.

That picture is priceless.

Hard to describe to someone who has never owned horses, what they can do for you.

I wish you well sir.

Great picture of what an animal can mean to us !

Lets keep that one foot a head of the other like you said !

Makes me think of H.D. how he persisted and came to Sedalia RPRU on oxygen defying his Doc's cause he wanted to meet his Red Power friends and took a group picture with us.

Lot of great inspiration and tough guys that I want to emulate when I get old ! lol.

     Thanks Guys , Tony

I wish i could trade some youth for wisdom here. Been having trouble figuring things out lately... a million tasks and projects that i have to do and learn on my own as i go. Im thankful for what my dad, uncles and other mentors taught me...and in 42 years i have learned a lot. But now dad and i dont get along well and he his down in Oregon with most of my other family that i dont really talk to. Uncle Dave was killed in an accident 8yrs ago and his good friend Mark just last year...both taught me so much right up to the day they went. My cousin lives down the road and he helps me out a lot but im kind of his senior mentor.

Im missing that curmudgeon wisdom in my life. Redpower is the closest thing i have! I dont know any of u guys but i appreciate this forum for bringing everyone together. When im old and slow i hope im still able to pass on wisdom...if its not all useless by then.

I am 67, my mind says yep and the body says no way. My day starts around 5:30, start running out of gas around 3:00. Have to let the younger ones take over. Very hard to do.

Good to hear you guys are on the mend.

What I try to keep in mind is this; We are all directly responsible for our own health. Sure, there are things out of our control but the choices we make every day count. Do I walk around the farm or do I ride the four wheeler? Little things like that add up. I try hard to keep my stamina where I can work, (or play) all day without having to quit.

I don't even like to think about being out of commission for even a short time. Too much stuff that 'needs' to  be done, and plenty of stuff I want to get done! Maybe I should slow down on dragging home these old tractors/machinery then scrutinizing them and thinking, need to fix that, and that, and that! There's an auction tomorrow.....

Dad is 75 and his stroke,  although light, has been hard on him.  His strength and stamina have been diminished.   But, he pushes himself every day and rests when he needs to. The therapist says the first 3 months are critical for regaining abilities.   He intends to return 100%.  Helping and watching me operate the farm have been good for his mental health this past month.

The getting old isn't the biitch so much as its the ailments, after the fusion last year the leg is good but something else reared its head in my foot, like ot said I too am good for 1 hour stints then stay put for a bit, with the steel knees, screws and plate in the ankle and my shoulder scraped out life aint bad, the only thing that pizzes me off is the RA in the hands and wrists, I know we ALL have worked with our hands for years and just never think of any other way, but I tell ya after some screwing (no not dat)  and my hands swelling up it sure slows you down, the thing that blows me away is at 75 and reading all your different ages we still have what it takes albeit a little less and a little slower to want to keep going, says a lot about our standards in life. This is my buddy, thinks he's a parrot.

Tony I hear ya. Getting 3-5 hours a day in the shop depending on how much I'm doing and how much I'm supervising. Wish I could make a RPRU right now. Just isn't in the cards this year. Be safe, have fun and follow the doc's orders!

Thanks for sharing guys.....some of this stuff can be quite personal and a little uncomfortable to talk about ....I appreciate the fact that guys on here are pretty open about this kind of thing and willing to share advise.

with the pace of life these days I think it would do us all a favour to simply  “ Pull  the T/A back “ and take some load off the power plant 😉.

Best wishes for any body hurting or recovering,....hope you guys all bounce back soon......we can’t run this place without you 😆😆

It is 101F here today and I just got out from under the K2500 in the driveway, working to replace the exhaust pipe to manifold gaskets because the muffler shop is booked out until July. (took an angle  grinder to get the studs loose)

I was at the medical lab this week, for a scheduled test for internal med doc. The tech there was complaining about her health and getting old, I told her I was 78 on my last birthday. That broke the ice and she said she was 58 YO, my reply "I have tools older than you are".

What ever your health is, do the best you can with what you have to work with, and keep hydrated.

Good to hear this Tony I look forward to meeting you in Ohio. My father is 79  years old this year two hip and a knee into his golden year and bad arthritis in his back he still goes out in the shop to tinker everyday  he has split my 450 twice in the past year just did a clutch and brakes on one of his 600’s and has the hydraulics apart on his 820 John Deere to fix a leaking down valve and just told me that if my girlfriend wanted he would fix her cousins John Deere M that their grandfather had on his Dairy farm for her if she wanted him to. He is always asking me to get him parts for projects. He loves the mechanical aspect of fixing old tractors but hates the paint. I’m glad him and all the great generation keep going they teach us so much. Slowing down a bit doesn’t mean stopping  just means your being a little more fuel efficient.

Just walked in after setting up a sprinkler.I am beat. It's been six months since I had a triple bypass and I am slowly coming back. Got no stamina and lost my strength. Things I do and took for granted take so much longer. If I do too much one day I ain't no good for a couple days after.  This ordeal has been very discouraging. My wife is understanding and encouraging but  doesn't get what's going on inside my head. Always been active and set my sights above average.  Thanks for listening  just got to rant

LOL! I worked in the shop by myself for about 5 hours today. Wife popped in about every 30 seconds it seems, more like 30 minutes, to check on me. While considering my current health I'm ok with her checking. Got a lot more done that what I would have thought but still not up to what I could have done just a couple of years ago. Then I started to mow some lawn. My earth came crashing down when my ball and chain demanded that I stop for the day..... Women, can't live with em and can't make babies without them! When my wife got to Germany in 1995 with our 6 children I told here that is she got pregnant again that I'd shoot myself. Couple of months later she tells me that she's in the family way.....then ask if I was going to shoot myself.....I told her NO, I might be shooting an innocent man! I can make this worse.....true story!

I use to tell everybody that I wasn't getting old until I was 80---well-my next birthday I will be 82, and I don't consider my self old, but I have slowed down some [take a nap after dinner now].

Take a 2 mile walk every day, mow lawn[2 acres] do some brush hogging, work a couple hours a day in the shop restoring a Scout, go to car and tractor shows, go to breakfast with my car and tractor buddies, and of course check in to Red Power every night.

So now I tell everybody that I am not getting old until I am 90.

have had a-fib for 10 years and who knows how long before i was diagnosed, still put in long days until i turned 65 and said i was going to slow down, well seems my shop is still busy even though i tell customers no, but after being in business for 40 years and having loyal customers i find it hard to say no, but i am pushing 67 my stamina is slipping and i have some upper body strength which makes me mad i can't lift what i used to.  so my customers know i am not as fast as i used to be and are very patient. not many young guys do carb work so the old guys are still in demand. frankly i am scared to quit as it seems that guys who quit altogether don't live long around here. now i only work a max of 5 hours a day and enjoy sitting with the my wife chatting and watch all the nature around us, when you are busy making a living and raising a family a lot of that gets over looked. i guess my thinking is it is time to enjoy the simple things in life, sorry for the long story....dieselman.
