dhutch Posted May 26, 2022 Share Posted May 26, 2022 I recently purchased an '85 model 175c. It has an f50 carco winch, but it's not working at the moment. I have a line that runs to the front of the engine, pressure??, and I'm guessing a supply line in there somewhere as well. I saw somewhere that there was the option for an engine mounted pump, but it's not there now. Could I run the winch off of the loader hydraulics? Or if that's too high of a pressure, what about running off the Trans system? Possibly put a valve in line to turn off the oil flow when it's not needed?? Troll Posted May 28, 2022 Share Posted May 28, 2022 I'd install a belt driven pump feeding into the existing valve body. You will only require two hoses which I would install new citing age. One for supply pressure, one for suction from the hydraulic reservoir. I've seen TD15 series tractors with either a direct mount pump, or belt driven but both do the same. Don't attempt to rob the hydraulic supply from another source as it may work but a compromise at best. 1500psi@10gpm will drive that winch real fine and allow good control. He would know more. I have a hydraulic winch on my BTD6 and the hydraulics come from the pump on the front. It has a supply line going in and hydraulic pressure coming out. It shares the same supply tank with the dozer blade. And it goes through a switching valve operated by the driver near the control valve. So you can switch from winch to blade from your seat. I don't really want to put money into a pump and getting it set up if the winch is bad. I was hoping to just use the hydraulics off of the loader to figure out what I have. From the manual I have, system pressure is around 300 psi, a little more than what the trans pump puts out, and less than the 1900 psi the loader hyd runs. I'm thinking of teeing off of the cooler line coming out of the torque convertor, having a valve in place that's easily accessible from the seat and at least figuring out if the winch is any good. If it works, I may do a separate pump in the future. The hydraulics seem to only control the valve to shift the winch in gear, which is driven from the trans pto. Troll Posted May 29, 2022 Share Posted May 29, 2022 Given you have no history I would run an external pump using say an automotive power steering pump for testing purposes. Belt drive this with an electric motor and adapt the existing hoses. A p/s pump will move about 5gpm and develop adequate pressure for testing. The pump will most likely have a pressure relief valve built in as will the tractor control valve. This will allow you to test for operation before spending much for testing. You could also disconnect the hoses from the drive motor for the winch and plumb into it direct to test for operation. Swap the hoses to reverse the flow and direction of winch drum. I bought a manual, but I didn't notice anywhere on how to tell short of when installing it. The canister on the right side near the loader controls appears to be a filter in the return line.
