There’s a gentleman over on the toys and memorabilia forum giving more than that for W6 toy tractors.  What a deal, good for you!!

Always thought that a w series tractor would be a really fun plow day machine in row crop country. Just don’t see any around here close to speak of.

True Sledge, I remember grand dad and Dad had one all tore apart when I was growing up, never ran , ended up robbing parts off it for the M’s that ran , just like the looks of them and the price was good😎

That’s likely me,  haha.  Don’t know if I spent that much on toy one yet,  but close.

Question was the series meant to compete with another brand very few around here, guy across the road had a w 4 hooked up to a new holland baler with a motor on, they always looked like they would turn hard, never sat in or drove one yet.

Been away from my phone, thank you forum members for all the response to this post, like I said earlier here in northern Illinois not many were being used when I was growing up (50) years ago, I think they were more popular in the west. I like the look of them and because there are not many around here is why I added it to the collection, now looking for a 3 bottom plow to hook to it😎

Your tractor has a Kosch steering wheel on it that was somewhat uncommon on wfe tractors. I have one here I want to put on a SW4 so I called Kosch ( still in business 2022) I want to know what the factory "anchor" ( my term) for the unit looked like from their company. - mine was off a rowcrop tractor. The receptionist put me through to the owner/ pres. Had a great hour long chat with him. What a great guy! turned out he is close in age to me and our fathers as well. He said he would check records and ask his father and get back to me. AND he did ! but they have no recollection of one of their steering wheels on a W Series. Regardless it was a pleasant exchange

If you could take some pics of the steering wheel bracket I would appreciate it. I can rig something up but I want it to look original

The steering aid has a spring inside to absorb shocks occurred when hitting a hole or dead furrow etc. W4s steer fairly easy and W9s not too bad. W6s seem to steer the hardest of the 3 IMHO

Yes when I get it home will be more than happy to take as many pictures as are helpful, noticed that when I bought it , had not had time to look into it so didn’t say anything about it, should be home tomorrow, had a busy couple days with grand kids! Looking forward to researching the steering , side note , like the old ad you shared!😎

Thank you for the information, it is amazing to me the amount of knowledge that is available from the forum members! Again, thank for informing me of these extras I would not have known about it!😎

I don't think they steered too hard, the pics for some reason give it a smaller appearance especially the one from the front, there was a ton of them sold up here the 6 being the most common, neighbor has a nice SW6 that I always had my eye on.

I recall @Ragnor did a mod to a steering component, I think lengthened it by 1 1/2" and you could steer with your fingers

putting the larger  4 spoke 18" steering wheel on them helps a little . but I don't find them unbearable as is,

That’s exactly why I like taking out 600 or 650 to plow days when it’s nothing but little row crop tractors

Just got home from church and running errands, looking at the W6 on the trailer yet, realized that it is really massive and well built for 1949, as I said the other I will be stepping up my search for a 3 bottom plow, there are not many of them around here either 😎
