Finally my 1206 Resurrection

Recommended Posts

I used the 1206 over at my son's new place today. He's got a 5 acre field to plant for horse hay. Now that he officially owns it we can finally plant it. The land has been sitting unused since last fall and a weed bed was taking over so I ran the disc over to cut it up.

Before I started I had to reinstall the alternator. I had it off to have it tested and replace the belt. Is anyone else disappointed with replacement parts? I didn't go to Evil-bay or the jungle site. I went right to the implement right here in town where they sold these tractors new. So frustrating to see that "Made in China".

I guess Chinese is probably better than the worn out one that was on there but it still chaps me.

So, I've been calling around trying to find a place to rebuild my Solar turbo. I've known I would have to go through it since I got the 12 but now is the time. We had it on a tractor ride last fall and it left a film of oil on the hood by the end of the day. Not like I was working it at all. That's the last time I ran it.

I searched here and found a few threads on the topic. I contacted Spencer as they listed parts on their website. Nope. Tried Central Plains as they were listed a few times and most recently. Nope. I spoke with Dan and he did give me a number for Blaylock Turbos in Baxter Springs Kansas. I gave them a call and got a real quick "Yep" from the gal answered the phone. "1 to 2 days" and a quick price quote. No questions. No other info. Just "Box it up and send it in."

Anyone have any work done there? Any reviews? I'd have liked a little more time to ask questions and such but wasn't given the chance.

Thanks all.

I know I'm intrigued by the prospect of a rebuilt Solar since 90% of the time the OEM 1206 Solar was replaced by a Schweitzer when it crashed.

So, the solar is off. Came off with no trouble. Even Pa's Hobo Fred 12 pt wrenches were able to remove the hardware without penetrant. Had to move a couple balers to get it out and over to the shop but all in all 3 hours had the machinery shuffle complete and the turbo off and in hand.

This is where it all goes to crap.

There is a crack about an inch and 3/16 long heading in from the relief cut in the base.

Now what? Is this thing toast? Guess I'll get on the horn tomorrow before I box it up and pay shipping.

Anyone else have thoughts?

So, I finally got to speak with Dennis himself at Central Plains. He has assured me that they can indeed still rebuild these Solar units. He also assured me that every one of these has that crack in the webbing of the inlet flange. All routine stuff I guess for the man who knows them. Goes to prove it matters who you talk to. Just gotta box it up now and get it sent off. I'll keep y'all filled in with any updates.

Thanks to those of you who suggested I spoke with Dennis over there.
