JaredT
I saw a shower head held together with a zip tie today and got me thinking about how many more "creative" uses there are for zip ties. Let's hear them.
jingles1928
Use them to tie plastic bags on the mirrors on my new truck so birds don't crap on it. Works great.
brahamfireman
Ive seen cops use real long ones as handcuffs.
Troll
Local farmer caught someone stealing something in his barn. Used three zip ties to secure the thief till the cops got there. One around the neck and door handle of a pickup truck rather "snug", one around the wrists with the arms behind the back, and a third around the ankles keeping any attempt to escape at bay.

We tried a zip tie once but with a bad (or missing) exhaust it wasn’t load enough. The guy drove around for a week till he got a ticket for loud exhaust and the mechanic who was doing the new muffler asked why he had a zip tie on his driveshaft.

vtfireman85
Had a customer years ago wanted a 400a service on a small ranch style house. Guy was one or 2 sandwiches short of a picnic, wouldn’t specifically say why he wanted so much power, but claimed to do “government contracts” . anyway among many other pearls of wisdom he shared was that he never boarded a plane without several very large HVAC zip ties, reason being the would clear security but if there ever was a terrorist on the plane , or if he were attacked. if he were able to get one over the guys head and give it a good yank, the offending party would be far too distracted to cause any more trouble. that , IMO is the best use i have ever heard of for a zip tie.
Sledgehammer
Brother went to Wyoming last weekend for the opener of public land shed antler hunting. We have a friend who lives there. He borrowed my pack and I told him to take some large zip ties to attach any horns to the pack. It worked.
nepoweshiekfarmalls
Hold your combination wrenches together in a bundle. Hold hood shut on the car after latch broke. Also fixed a broken windshield wiper with them too. Hold a temporary headlight in place on the car after hitting a deer at night. Securing a load into the bed of the pickup or holding the trunk shut while transporting a bulky item. Hold a broken pair of eyeglasses together.
Sledgehammer
I had a friend in college who had someone hit her car a day or so before needing to travel home several hours. I drilled holes in the plastic panels and stitched them back together with zip ties so she wouldn’t have pieces trying to fly off. Got a plate of cookies out of that deal. 👍🏼👍🏼 3

Friend = acquaintance college = school of higher learning (supposedly) her = the female student I helped who happened to be very easy on the eyes plate of cookies = chocolate chip if I remember correctly. sadly, no euphemism here. They were just small round cookies and nothing extra. She was a very nice girl with moral values and quite intelligent. We had some good, in depth conversations about life. Did I mention she was hot? Nothing more than words were exchanged and I’m ok with that. 1

Steve C.
The console in my '76 280Z had a crack in it when I bought it. Took the console out, cut a few inches out of a super heavy duty cable tie, and JB Welded it across the back side of the crack. Still holding up after 13 + years.

mader656
These are the best zip ties and reusable. Load securement is the craziest I'm willing to admit to.
vtfireman85
Dad uses them to identify chains as his. Works better than paint.
oldscoutdiesel
I had to use one to fasten the battery cable to the post to get home. Friend uses them to identify hoses on hydraulic equipment for hookup purposes.
Rusty_Farmer
Link broke on the "field tracker" in the farthest farm . Laid 3 along the link and wrap duct tape around the ties and link. Held up for the last 2 days of harvest.
