1256 MCV PUMP

Recommended Posts

Would a 12 gmp pump out of a 886 work in  place of a 9 gpm  on a 1256?   Somewhere I read it could be done but something had to be drilled out larger.  I hadnt been able to find where I read it.  I know someone on this forum should know.  Thanks

Yes, it will work but if your looking to improve steering I don't believe it will make it much better. Pump delivers oil to flow divider which diverts 3-5 gallon to steering. Can't remember for sure what 1206 gets for steering priority. Rest of the oil goes to regulated circuit and oil cooler

Yes it will bolt right on but I have had some guys contact me about putting that bigger pump in those older tractors and they end up with a hyd squeal and have tried several things and it won’t go away until they put that smaller pump back on . You can try it and see how it works , maybe yours will be the one that it won’t be a problem 🤔 Make sure you test the pump before installing it , just put parts solvent in the pump and turn it over by hand with your thumb over the smaller port on the pump . If it blows your thumb off the pump is good , if you can hold the fluid back the pump is bad . Only put new ones on and no rebuilt ones .

I thank I got oring blowed on the 886, steering quits when you turn tractor up hill.  So I was thanking of putting a new pump on it while I had it apart since its got a TA.  Steering has quit on the 1256, hadnt had time to figure out whats wrong with it.  Just wondering if they would interchange.  Thanks for the replies.
