Mountain Heritage
I believe there is 2 different styles that fit the front rack of the 88 series? Anyone have pictures and part numbers of those that fit??

acem
I thought all the ih weights would work. Never paid any attention.
Mountain Heritage
I don't think so??? I'm no expert though
nate
There is one style for the MFWD tractors and one for the 2 wheel drive. 2 wheel drive is large grab handle with the angle iron slot. 3
brahamfireman
Period correct suitcase weights for an 88 series are like Nate said, large hand hole, angle iron hold down slot, AND a flat bottom. But any series IH suitcase weight will fit on the front. The center 2 rub the grill when installing but not when mounted. Here's a miss match of a bunch of different vintage suitcase weights on our 5088. Note that the bottom is curved, The correct ones in Nates Pic are flat. 2
Mountain Heritage
Thank you for the pictures guys and the part numbers. This is the rack I have, looks to be the same as the one Nate has on his tractor, so that's great! I see that Nate's angle is down lower than the end hole of the rack - so you need to drill the rack to bolt that angle in? I figured it would have been tall enough to reach the pre-drilled hole? brahamfireman
No drilling needed. There's plenty of room to lift the angle around to get it right. Looks like a 3x88 series front end, You'll have no problem with the weights interfering with the grill like the 5x88 series do. We need more pics..... Mountain Heritage
Perfect! Thanks! LOL, yeah its a 3688 - but its dirty now, not really photogenic at the moment! Other ones I have of it. Not really sure why the red paint shows up as a big blotch under stack - only picks it up when the picture was taken!??? ODD. This was the day it came home... the fancy grill bling had to go.
IHC5488
How many weights you need? Are you looking for 12 or a few to get you the ballast you need?
Mountain Heritage
Likely 10 to 12 I'm thinking. Once the planter is loaded I'm sure I'll need them all????

farmerdukes
Just a heads up that they are getting expensive. The auction at Windsor 2 weeks ago they were selling anywhere from $160 a piece up to $200. They seem to bring a premium.

Edit; Looked at a Black Stripe 10 before I bought the one I now have. Don't remember why I passed on it now. It had a full rack of 75's on the front. Now worth about a quarter of what he was asking for the tractor then!

So which have the flat bottom? I assume just 148347C1 and 1280656C1? Also your list shows just 1 type of 100 lb. weights with "square front". Other than the cut-out for the angle iron what is different about 383393R1 and 383393R2 that you are referring to with the square front? I believe the "flame cut" weights did not have didn't have a completely enclosed hand hole, I believe there was an open slot on the top. Does anyone have a part number for those weights? I got that list right here off RP years ago so I didn't make it. I've got a set of those 100# without the L cut out, I'll get a few pics later when I'm at the farm. Not sure what they're talking about with the "square front". You are correct on those 2 part numbers having the flat bottom. The flame cut weights were open handle. Technically aftermarket that IH dealers sold was my understanding, I've seen them on many colors of tractors.

But I can't really think what they mean about the square front.
ihrondiesel
Square front - flat bottom. The 86 series weights had a concave curve on the bottom, 88 series are flat bottom. 88 series MFD are different shape and thinner. Square front flat bottom 88 series MFD
acem
Are the mfw weights used in any cih applications? I've seen similar weights on cih cotton pickers.

My only guess is this little tab I circled. I only have 2 with the small hand hole and no L cutout. Interestingly the only ones I have with the small hand hole and with the L cutout, are aftermarket with no IH logo but still have that small tab. So I'm still not really sure what that mean. nate
Square front flat bottom. It doesn’t dip in a bit where the IH logo is and is flat across bottom
