Auction report

Went to a local auction today. Kind of an estate sale, father/daughter downsizing, moving South. Good people, only about 5 miles from the farm. Little bit of 'Red stuff'.

Model 56 (I think) 4-row planter, $110.

73 966, $7100.

Five 75 lb. suitcase weights and bracket, $390.

Quick hitch, $110, not IH but related.

656 Hydro, $9250, I think. May have been $9000. I was second place bidder. Uncle thought I should have kept bidding, I thought we were North of the 'sanity line' already! I'll save my money for a 1566!!!

Bargain of the day, and only thing I bought, 4 cub cadet wheel weights with bolts, $50! Uncle had his hands in his pockets and I bid before him, no one else bid.

Nice score on the wheel weights Mike! Some decent looking stuff. 966 doesn't sound like too bad a price. I've seen 1 or 2 lately on Craigslist list asking north of 10,000. I agree that would be plenty for the 656. At least imo.

Agreed. Looks like a nice 656 gas, even a hydro I'd have a tough time with that price. To each their own..

Definitely the buy of the week on the Cub Cadet weights. Nice buy.

I may have to buy another CC to bolt them to!

Really wanted to drive that 656 home! just couldn't justify the $$$$.

Wish I had that front weight bracket and some weights.

I'll keep my eyes open, don't have any that aren't bolted to a tractor now. It wasn't a horrible price but more than I wanted to pay today.

Bolt a pair on the inside of the rear wheels. More weight and not so much sticking out!

I agree, I'd love to have one. Those small frame hydros have really been going up in price lately. I need to downsize a bit first.

I see em advertised. It's just been too low on the priority list so far. Won't fit as long as the loader brackets are on anyway.

I got a couple you can "store" them on. 😁

I think the uncle might have one or two I could store them on too! He was a little upset I got my hand in the air before he got his out of his pocket!!!

Looks like a good sale. I wish there were decent sales to attend around here, let alone decent prices. Everything has gone to online with huge buyers premiums....

After the sale we went for a little road-trip. Guy that advertises on c-list had some used disc blades, same size as the ones on my 490 that are in sad shape. Got 11 from him for $100. Their earth-metal blades, match mine for size nicely. pretty good day!

$55-60 for a 75lb weight, is about $100 less than what they bring around here. I don’t know much about cub weights but I’d have said the 966, weights, bracket and hitch were all  really good buys

I would say they were a good buy, not great. i gave up around $350. 75 pounders bring crazy prices but I'm not paying those!

i was second, (or third) place bidder on several things today. Couple of nice tables, 4'X12' brought $280. If I had the new shop with concrete done i would have bid more.

Todd, hasn't been much for sales around here lately. Seems like there's one every week or not one for months?? Should be coming into prime auction season here. I'll let you know if there is a 450 I can't afford!

Ha ha.  Go ahead and get it if there is. That way I know it’s going to a good home.

Probably the deal of the day.

Wow! That 966 looks nice and original. Do you know was it a one owner? How many hours are on it? I seen a run down, open station, grill missing, wouldn't start, rode hard put away wet one sell a few weeks ago sell for 4250. I dont need another but that one but that looks like a deal in todays markets.

I think the one for 4250 went to salvage but I could be wrong. It coulda been brought to life but it needed alot!

I believe he was the second owner. He said the only thing that tractor ever did was move snow. An elevator or something similar had it before him. Drawbar was missing, toplink was there. 656 had it's toplink also. Have seen many Red tractors at auctions missing those. I don't remember how many hours but I think less than 5000. Probably should have bought it, could have flipped it and made a buck or two. Of course had I started bidding who knows how high it would have went and it sold before the tractor I wanted. Really didn't want to spend $20,000 yesterday!

Your Uncle/enabler wasn't doing a very good job pushing your hand up then! 😄
