Redman66
Checking this new reliance head gasket for a 263. The old head gasket had perfectly round holes. This gasket has egg shaped holes. Parts counter said it’s correct. Is it?
tractorholic
Mine didnt like that a few months ago. But I don't think it was reliance. I know the one we took out had round holes too
FarmerFixEmUp
I have a new Fel Pro in the drawer and it has somewhat of an egg shape but not that much.

560Dennis
I’m not an expert head gasketer. But I question this? , the steel sealer ring in my opinion should seal the head to the sleeve. Again my opinion the pressure of combustion is going to go down the sleeve counter bore entering into the water jacket . Am I wrong? Also metal side of the head gasket goes down to block .graphite up . They tell me at Fel pro to use light coat of copper sealer on the metal side only. snoshoe
Maynard has it. There are different combustion chamber shapes. Compare the gasket to the head. The round shape would do no good if there is no head compressing it.
R190
It looks good to me as others said compare it to the head I believe the early straight valve sixes used a rounder head gasket compared to a slant valve.
VacDaddyt
Ok if the other head has a different shape for the gasket, then his fire crate domes need to fit up inside the head or there is a clearance issue there. I ran into this buying a used head which turned out to be from a 656 or 706. A lot going on there.
Redman66
After comparing this to the head, this appears to be the correct gasket. Thanks for the input. Here is a picture of the gasket on the head.

These engines are dry sleeve, press fit sleeves. So they are not near the water jacket.

Redman66
No the old gasket was on the head when it went to the machine shop and is long gone now.
