Where would I find a kit to put a 540 PTO shaft on my International 6788 tractor?

If I understand you correctly,  you have a single 1000 shaft PTO now?

Replace that 1000 only unit with a dual PTO.   You can find them at a salvage yard.

This type of conversion works great , but could be more expensive than just getting a complete used unit

you need a push style off a late 986 or late 1086 will fit right in. You can put in a pull style like 1066, but you have to change the linkage and get the front (intermediate ?) shaft for a late 9 or 1086 to make it work

Yup. There are more people out there looking to put a dual-speed PTO unit in their single-speed tractor, than there are dual-speed PTO units. 

You'll have a much easier time as a 6788 is still based on the 706/806 style rear end. 5x88 series guys and early Magnum guys tend to be SOL because of low production numbers.

Yea about my luck. Lol.    But I have a few 1000 pto equipment so Iam ok.
