2019 Ford F350 Retro Paint Job

Got some interest in this after posting in another thread so I though I would start a thread by itself.

The truck is a 2019 with only a little over 6k miles.  It was rolled over and I bought it at a salvage sale.  Got it home and started swapping out parts.  Every body panel is new except for the right fender.  That and the right mirror were about the only pieces that made it through with no damage.  None of it was really all that bad, just minor damage everywhere.  No frame or suspension damage.

I really miss the old two-tone paint jobs and color matched interiors.  Seems like every new truck is just a single color and grey interior.  There are exceptions of course but that's what is mostly on the road.  In 1976 my dad bought a brand new F250 that was red and white with red interior.  Over the years my family had that, a 1990 F250 just like it, a 1997 F350 the same, and even a 1980 Bronco.  Those were all between my dad, mom, and brother but I never had one.  Now its my turn.

The red paint is even CaseIH red....kinda.  I used Southern Polyurethane Inc. (SPI) basecoat.  I've used it on other projects and their "dark red" is a perfect match in my opinion.  I did a Raptor Liner color-match spray in bed liner that requires mixing basecoat in but special mixed without the binder.  SPI isn't able to do that but any local autobody paint shop can.  I went to the local place and used the paint code from the Ram trucks that you can special order in Case IH red.  The code is P61 in case anyone needs it.  I did a test panel and it was a perfect match so in the bed liner it went.  I'm really happy how it turned out and how it looks with the factor Ford white.

I went crazy on the interior too.  Some like it and some don't but I love red interiors and wanted to do it like it would have been back in the day.  All the plastic got coated with a plastic dye and I reupholstered the seats in red leather with seat heaters too.  The steering wheel is from a Ford Raptor and the paddle shifters are functional.  I think the interior took me longer than the exterior did.  That was quite a project.

I think it looks sharp and I wish they would bring that look back. I too like red interiors specifically and the color matched interior in general. That too I would like to see come back. Doubt it happens tho.

You did a good job. Ty for starting this topic. I was wondering about the specifics.

Oh and it's a real truck with an 8 foot box and a regular cab! Love it!

Thanks!

and yeah there are actually several dealerships doing Fords and Chevys in the retro scheme.  I think most or maybe all of them are wraps so you could easily change it later if you wanted.  There was one kinda famous Ford at the Sema show in 17 or 18 that was red and white just like mine.  I loved it and don't mind copying since it really was a factory scheme for a lot of years anyway.  None of the others I have seen had custom interiors to match.  One did have old-school horse blanket looking seat covers that really fit the theme.  That was a nice touch.

That is really nice!! You did a great job inside and out!!  At first l wasn't to thrilled about the Ford oval being red instead of blue, but then it dawned on me that the red oval was the old Ford tractor emblem. So it does tie in with the red/white paint scheme.

Looks Very Nice!  I remember the “horse blanket” seat pattern you are talking about and the re-done retro one a few years back. Well Done!

YOU WANNA See " NICE horse blanket seat covers,  watch BIG SKY and wait till they show an interior shot of KATHERINE Winnick's '93 to '97 BRONCO.  AND as a matter of fact, the Bronco is tu-toned, bronze & white,  but you better DVR it, in case you get distracted.

My '87 F150 was a Combination tu-tone, roof and center of the body panels were silver-gray, rocker panels and hood tops of doors, top of bed sides and inside the box all a fairly dark metallic blue.  My '78 F150 was also tu-tone, roof was light almost mint green, rest was all dark Kelly Green metallic,  and WHAT OTHER COLOR can you color match to a green interior?  Maybe black?

MY '96 WAS BRITE RED, lite gray interior and black vinyl floor mats.  Other that what 26 Wisconsin winters have done to it, It still turns heads.  MY '18 RAM 1500 is 2150 IH red, light Grey interior, and black carpet floors. I had the dealer ceramic coat the paint and after 4 birthdays it seems to really shine up nice.  I actually washed it for the first time EVER about an hour ago.

But back on topic,  that F350 of VORTEC-Z's is about the best tu-tone you can get on any truck.  Back in 1964, lot of Chevy's got tu-toned their "red" which was more of an orange, with white cab roof.  I rode home from Sycamore, Ill to Osco, Ill in a brand new C60 cab/chassis stretched to accept a 20 ft box, had a 327 V8 and 4+2,  was a bumpy but quick ride!

I saw that just before I order my 2020 f250. Right before I said order it I asked the salesman if the dealer body shop could do something like it. He gave me a price and I said do it! (It was less than 1/4 of what was mentioned in machinery Pete’s video!). When I got the truck the salesman said “don’t tell anybody how much you paid. We’re never doing it that cheap again!”  I have been happy with it ever since. They do stand out these days.

I like them both

And that interior is a real head turner.

Paint schemes pay homage to the IMHO the best looking pickup series with XLT Lariat trim pkg Ford ever put out.

Of course everyone calls mine a ‘fancy’ truck. Then I show them the crank windows and ask if they’ve ever seen a ‘fancy’ truck with that?  The only options I got were dif lock rears, gooseneck prep, heavy springs, heavy duty alternator, chrome bumpers and aluminum wheels. Only reason for last two was to make paint job look right.

I agree!  The 78-79 Ranger/ XLT Lariat with the racetrack trim in 2 tone is the sharpest pickup built.  My 1997 F250 XLT is my second favorite style.  Mine is red with white like the topic truck.

Man after my own heart, Jeff! And you too, Aaron!  If I had unlimited funds, that is the redone pickup I’d have for a daily driver.

I really like it, thanks for sharing. My Dad had a ‘76 F250 when I was a boy, ragoon red and white. It was a Ranger. It was his work truck. I had a blue & silver ‘79 Lariat F150 when I graduated high school. I miss those type of trucks, maybe one day I’ll have one of my own.

Very sharp looking. Probably was lucky to grow up when those pickups were around. There was a 73 or 4 IH  1/2 ton 2wd that was  immmaculate when I was in high school. The  60s chevys were there as old vehicles and those 74 to 85 Chevy and Fords were there. In 88 most of them were in good shape so got to see a bunch of them. I am not a ford guy but that late 70 s and the next 83 body style were very nice in the 2 tone lariat trim. If I had money I would get a 80 Chevy , 87 Chevy or Gm. A 79 ford 83 ford and a 89 dodge all 4 wd 1/2 ton 4x4 s. And a IH pickup.

When I was a kid all pickups and other trucks had a white or light colored cab top.  The white cab top kept the cab cooler in our heat. About 1980 the white tops went away and trucks came with air conditioning.

I like white tractor cab tops for the same reason.
