It’s dry enough to sow some oats today.

Probably could here too.  It seems just a wee bit early for us but conditions are good.  I tried forage oats once.  They didn't impress vs fall planted cereal family.   Maybe I should try again.

We always tried to get oats in as early as possible. If the previous fall tillage worked as planned, oats were sown on fall plowed(disked, then dragged in the spring) ground only. Remember a time or two, when there was still some froze ground by the fence line under shaded trees. 
And if ever a late spring snow storm hit, and snowed on sown ground, you would have near bumper crop on those fields.
