I turn on the tube and what do I see
A whole lotta people cryin' "Don't blame me"
They point their crooked little fingers at everybody else
Spend all their time feelin' sorry for themselves
Victim of this, victim of that
Your momma's too thin; your daddy's too fat

Get over it

“Well I was drunk,

Not the best song or anything, but it was unique back in the day.  I think of it once in a while because my wife is a teacher and years ago they had called home to have a family come pick up a child that was vomiting and the family member that answered said that they could not come, because they had been drinking. And it was pretty early in the morning.

But DAC even says his friend had written the perfect country song and I agree!

Sammy Hagar

3 Lock Box

Suckers walk, money talks
But it can't touch my three lock box

409
Song by Brian Wilson, Gary Usher, and Mike Love

She's real fine my 409
She's real fine my 409
My 409
Well I saved my pennies and I saved my dimes
(Giddy up giddy up 409)
For I knew there would be a time
(Giddy up giddy up 409)
When I would buy a brand new 409

Peace of Mind
Song by Boston

Lyrics

Now if you're feelin' kinda low 'bout the dues you've been paying
Future's coming much too slow
And you wanna run, but somehow you just keep on stayin'
Can't decide on which way to go
Yeah, yeah, yeah

(Oh) Pretty Woman
Song by Van Halen

Lyrics

Woo!
Pretty woman, walking down the street
Pretty woman, the kind I like to meet
Pretty woman
I don't believe you, it must be true
No one can look as good as you
Mercy

2 of Styx best ever.
Blue Collar Man (Long Nights)
Song by Styx

Lyrics

Give me a job, give me security
Give me a chance to survive
I'm just a poor soul in the unemployment line
My God, I'm hardly alive
My mother and father, my wife and my friends
You see them laugh in my face
But I've got the power, and I've got the will
I'm not a charity case

Renegade
Song by Styx

Lyrics

Oh Mama, I'm in fear for my life
From the long arm of the law
Lawman has put an end to my running
And I'm so far from my home
Oh Mama, I can hear you a-cryin'
You're so scared and all alone
Hangman is comin' down from the gallows
And I don't have very long (yeah!)

Jamie's Cryin'
Song by Van Halen

Lyrics

She saw the look in his eyes
And she knew better
He wanted her tonight
And it was now or never
He made her feel so sad
Oh, oh, oh, Jamie's cryin'
Oh, oh, oh, Jamie's cryin'

Sweet Emotion
Song by Aerosmith

Lyrics

Sweet emotion
Sweet emotion
You talk about things that nobody cares
Wearing out things that nobody wears
You're calling my name but I gotta make clear
I can't say, baby, where I'll be in a year
Some sweat hog mama with a face like a gent
Said my get up and go, must've got up and went
Well I got good news, she's a real good liar
'Cause the backstage boogie sets your pants on fire

Marty Robbins -

El Paso

Out in the West Texas town of El Paso I fell in love with a Mexican girl. Night-time would find me in Rosa's cantina; Music would play and Felina would whirl.

Song by Foreigner

Feeling down n' dirty, feeling kinda mean
I've been from one to another extreme
This time I had a good time, ain't got time to wait
I want to stick around till I can't see straight

I don't think Mel Tillis has been brought up yet.

Heck of a sense of humor about his stuttering.

He learned to sing to conquer it and IMHO there is not a richer more beatiful voice out there.

Melvin, who's Julie?

You talk about your stutterin, course I got on with it

It took me about 15 minutes to tell her it was racehorse up in Kentucky

I thought he said his friend thought he had written the best song, but he said it wasn’t, because it didn’t mention anything about mamas, getting drunk, or prison?

Song was written by Steve Goodman and John Prine with Goodman adding the final verse due to Coe's chiding about the missing elements disallowing it being "perfect".  Here's a Wiki link if you're inclined.

You Never Even Called Me By My Name info

It is a wonderful song.  There are a boatload of versions/videos out there to be heard

I can’t remember the last time I’ve heard it, but I am remembering it from listening to it on the barn in a long time ago, There was an older gentleman who worked for us for 30 years, he would sing it, but he never really “caught” all the words so it was interesting to think he  would say sometimes

A few lines from the song "Golgotha" from the album with the same name by the 80s heavy metal band W.A.S.P. Their first (and as of yet only) Christian rock album. The video for the song is very powerful and humbling.

I got a little change in my pocket

Goin' jingalingaling

Gonna call you on the telephone baby

Gonna give you a ring

But each time we talk

I get the same old thing

Always no huggy no kissy

Till I get a wedding ring

I said my honey my baby

Don't put my love upon no shelf

She said don't hand me no lines

And keep your hands to yourself

Georgia Satellites

Yes, I grew up in the 80s!

Going by memory for lyrics, so forgive me if I didn't get them all right.

...that bloke must have stirred a considerable bit of excrement , over your way, Rawleigh....because it featured on the main New Zealand evening news ,couple nights gone.....

...and wouldn't    you know it.....the ''telephone''   here in the cabin I use whilst working down here at the Rainbow Station, shrilled   malevolently, just as the clip above   and the accompanying    narrative   started.......so I missed it all......

Mike:  He is singing from the heart and his words resonate with most working people. It scared the left enough that they're trying to Brand it a right-wing extremist song.

Also the style is Appalachian Folk which many have not heard before played on a Dobro resonator style guitar.  Very powerful.  Try listening to it

The way I heard it was the three wrote it together but after Steve Goodman passed away David and John gave all the credit to him. I meant to respond to it earlier but you beat me to it.

Probably my all time favorite

Ed Bruce, “The Last Cowboy Song”

”This is the last cowboy song, the end of a hundred year waltz”

And now one of my kids has stolen the cord so I can’t play it loud on the radio in the shop 🤬

Ed Bruce had a lot of great songs.

Time to upgrade your shop radio it sounds like.
