Brockpend
Need a battery for a 460, what size battery does that engine need? I imagine it needs to be relatively big.
TomH
Group 65 850 CCA should do it.
iowaboy1965
I like to get as close to 1000 CCA as I can for bigger motors but I imagine 850 would work.

vtfireman85
You know, a lot of stuff around here gets group 24 batteries, I have a lot of 3 year old take outs every year, one of them whipped a gas 460 over just fine. I have one on my M as well. I am a fan of big batteries, preferably duals but i am always amazed.

Then I discovered that group 34 batteries fit and have more CCA.

I have a nearly endless supply of free group 24-R, we pull them at 3 years from generators and they usually go another year or 2

oleman
Group 31 is the battery, if the box is large enough. Actually cheaper than many smaller batteries because they are so common in commercial equipment.

It’s 1000 cca

iowaboy1965
That looks like a deep cycle tho with the threaded terminals?

I’m pretty sure they make adapters that screw onto those. If not I’ll change the ends out on the cables. What does deep cycle mean though? I do not know? iowaboy1965
Deep cycle=Camper or boat battery made to be used longer without being charged. More reserve capacity. Not a bad thing but not really needed in an automotive application either. I assume a bit more expensive....
jass1660
Changing cable ends leads to another spot for corrosion
midnightman
Around here the parts stores have those batteries with either threaded or post terminals depending on your application

I imagine a 460 from the 70s will definitely need to be turned over a little more to get it to start lol
1480x3
I got duals on my 2021 7.3, a single is standard. Don't know the CCA of them, think the 7.3 is around 440 ci. Never did the math.
int 504
They make regular batteries with threaded posts. Commonly used in boats. Some have center position posts or studs.
