There was play in the big pivot bushing and the rear wishbone bushing.  The steering cylinder pivots had some wear also.    The pins will be reused and just get rebushed.    Spindles seemed good.   Normal wear for 7000 hours I guess…

Just getting caught up on some tonight Nate. Are you sure its not 17000?

How is the price of parts to rebuild the square axle vs the round?

Not sure Ace.   Never rebuilt a round axle.   The parts were expensive just like everything else, but not bad enough to start making bushings.

That's one impressive rebuild you got going on there nate. I also like the hat hanger you got there on the block😀

We call it the second shift,   We work on it after our day jobs.  Lots of 8pm to midnight work.

No it’s not 17,000.   First time engine has been opened up.  Date stamp on bearings, pump still has wire on it.

Working on the front end tonight.

anyone ever have trouble with the aftermarket tie rods?    Got this replacement and you tighten it up and the taper must not be big enough diameter.   It tightens down and you can’t even pivot the tie rod end.  It is the correct part number 1280662c1

Yes,   Yes it was.    I usually pack clothes for all seasons and 4 different kinds of footwear.  Would not miss it though.

Well, tie rods showed up,   The second outer tie rod we got seemed to tighten up like it should.    The new inner tie rod will not work because it hits the yoke.    Why can’t anyone make the correct replacement parts??

They think it’s a 1 fits all world! Well that’s not the case!
3 years ago I was going through the shifting rebuild process on a 1066, 1 main piece was wrong, splines were welded incorrectly, or the roll pin hole was drilled wrong?! Which ever of the 2 was wrong, it didn’t work, period!! Took the parts back to the dealer, parts guy saw the issue, got me another part coming, sent the one I had back, 2 days later, same thing wrong with the next new one.  He called the supplier, they knew they had a problem, but until that run of bad parts were sold, they didn’t know when I would see the correct part?? Mmmm, why not pull all the bad parts, and scrap them, and make them right, your not going to sell parts that don’t work!! So ended up going through another aftermarket company!  Their parts were right, and better!

You definitely want the Hy Capacity rebuild kit, not the A&I!

quite a bit more a few years ago to rebuild a square vs. a round and most places have round parts on the shelf when you got to order and sometimes track down the square stuff

I used A&I with no issues on the first rebuild, the second rebuild I got the bad part, and then my parts guy went to Ag Parts, and finished the second rebuild.  I’ll have to try Hy Cap on the next one.

Don't know about his but my 5488 has been glued to the floor for months.

Used to sit an axe by a rear tire when a tractor sat in the shop a long time waiting for parts. Boss one time wondered what the axe was for and told him, it's for cutting the roots that are growing around the tires so we can move it once its back together🤔

Anymore progress?  :)

Sadly no.    Spring planting was rough.    Got started then 4 inches of rain and made a mess of fields we had planted.  We mudded some in and finally finished planting June 5.   Then on to making hay, chopped all the alfalfa and are baling grass now.    Temps 90-100 this week so stuff is starting to burn up.   Hopefully get back at it soon…
