acem
I have a special service tools book from ih that covers the 5x88. It's big. I'll get some pics. Do y'all rent out your tools? We put the detent balls in the high/medium synchronizer and really would have liked to have the tool. Thx-Ace
nate
We’ve been working on it some, Engine totally torn down, l couple lifters were starting to get rough. More money! Sent head to get done and injectors gone through. Today speed got put together, and front end pressure washed. My 13 year old was helping also. Hopefully not boring people with pics along the way…

acem
I'd put new cab mounts on while it's easy.

And we are a “ if it ain’t broke don’t replace it crew”. I’ve seen enough junk new parts lately that I’m not willing to risk putting Chinese rubber mounts on. We did put anti seize on the threads though!

IHC5488
No matter how much money you have it in, it will be cheaper then a new one and probably last longer

acem
Just for reference. The counter shaft of the range transmission can be put in backwards. This will prevent the input shaft from going all the way in. I mention this because this is a great reference thread and I wasted 3 hours trying to put it in wrong. Thx-Ace

acem
What's the tricks to putting the range and speed transmissions back together? There are two sets of splines to align... The front is on a good tractor handler
IHC5488
I think you reach in thru the filter housing or hydraulic pump holes and turn the gears

I also cut off a bolt and threaded it into the range for an alignment dowel pin. Just gotta be careful with the Teflon and the o ring. Wiggle it gently and it will go eventually.
