966 Clutch - hard to depress

Gen3

Recommended Posts

I would like for my wife and sons to be able to drive the 9 but neither have the leg strength needed to depress the clutch, hold it in and then gently let up to engage. Anything I can do to help them out?

Our tractors have the red deluxe cabs so I can’t compare them to an open station but I believe from what I have seen other pictures on here, that the cylinder mount the same. We have one with me early style white non-deluxe cab, International cab, and it does have a bracket that is mounted differently

Per the above....the boys, maybe.   The downsides of suggesting my wife needs to use one of those would be FAR more than buying a new tractor with a easier-to-use  transmission....not just the hydraulic clutch update!   (Your experience may be different.....)

OH and by the way, the clutch assist doesn't help when the tractor isn't running. It actually makes the clutch even more difficult to push. If they can't push the clutch pedal they can't start the tractor so they can't drive it anyway.

Baloney.  I switched an 856 from a  non assist clutch to an assist linkage.  The pedal is different for the assist linkage and it make it noticeably easier to depress the pedal even with the engine not running.

There is no substitute for an assist clutch.  If you want to be a he man and shove that beastly heavy non assist clutch in all time, go for it.  Don’t come complaining to me in 20 years that your left knee hurts any time you kick a clutch pedal.  Been there and done that.

When I used to plow snow with the 766, after 8 hours of doing parking lots I sure wished that it had the hydraulic assist!

I had a 1066 with a manual clutch or without the hyd assist.Horrible tractor to run pushing that clutch in would kill you.Sold it to a Amishman who was only going to use it for a power unit. He didn't care how hard it was to push in,just how powerful it was .
