ibendem
I plan to install a loader on my 1086 for winter feeding and was curious what brand joystick control valve to look for? I plan to have the valve located remotely from the control, since I have no desire for hose routing in the cab. The tractor is a 77 model with open center hydraulics and has two sets of remotes. The remotes will be used to control a bale processor, and as such will be unavailable to power the loader. I appreciate any advice.
andrewn269
Look at surplus center, they may have joystick with cables for a remote mount
Matt Kirsch
I picked up a cheap open center remote joystick valve off ebay for <$300 last year. Seems like a pretty well built unit. The drawback is it's all BSPP thread so you need $75 in adapters to go to NPT or whatever you prefer.
ibendem
Was the ebay valve from an outfit called arshydraulic out of Finland? Any idea what brand the valve is? Looks almost too good for the money... I wonder if shipping and customs along with fittings adapters would be substantial?
Matt Kirsch
I got mine from a US vendor.
ibendem
I'd definitely prefer that. Do you remember the user name?
Matt Kirsch
No and it's been more than 90 days so the ebay records have been purged. It shows I bought something but what that is/was... I do know that I was hesitating on pulling the trigger, then they went out of stock. Then a few more popped up, so I snagged one. Haven't seen any since. Right now I'm debating on what to do with it. Originally I had planned on putting it on my 1586, but now I'm strongly considering getting a power beyond plate for the 756, removing the end valve, and installing the joystick. Yes there will only be one remote, but another middle valve is $750+ now, and this tractor hasn't had anything but the loader attached to the hydraulics in close to 30 years. I'm just looking to free up a remote to run a bale grabber.

The reason Im asking is Ive thought about adding a joystick to my 966 to free up the outlets but I wasnt aware that you had to remove a valve. You don’t have to get rid of a valve, but to use a power beyond plate you need to switch the end valve for another middle valve.

Yup, and that's not an inexpensive proposition. To get a good one you're talking $700+ depending on where you get it from. The "end" valve has zero resale value. Everyone takes them off to put on a power beyond. I'm just looking to save the $$$, and I don't really need the second remote on the rear. If I need more remotes it will be with the loader off and I can use the joystick.
ihrondiesel
Is it possible to drill and tap the end valve to get power beyond? Maybe not, just asking.

Possible, I'm sure it is. Practical, I'm sure it is not. You can't just drill two holes and tap. First off there isn't enough meat there to tap. Second off there is an internal passage that loops the hydraulic fluid back around to return it that has to be blocked off. I think you'd have to open the side up, build it up with weld, and weld in fittings. In cast. Cast steel, but still cast.
