make your own drive over underbody wash in the driveway?  pop up nozzles squirting all different directions and hover over it...........

I wash my plow/salt trucks after each use but they are in need of repair yearly for corrosion issues.  The spreader frame and bumper/hitch, trailer wire connection, and those hanging spare tire things are prime targets.

On the salt issue, up until 15ish years ago it simply wasn’t used, at least west river. Now the state thinks they have to spray that corrosive garbage everywhere, thus the old Internationals stay home once the weather turns bad. As far as washing it off, I try to as much as possible but sometimes it stays super cold for weeks at a time and it’s just not possible.

My new truck i fluid filmed in September before it saw any winter. I washed it off Sunday and put it in the garage for the week. My old truck when I first got it I worked loading salt and sand trucks in the winter it was hard to wash it off at the end of a 24-36 hour shift. And when I would leave the DPW yard the roads were always black and wet.I work for a concrete company so I would rinse it off all the time at work it’s nice having a truck with 200 gallons of hot water and 85-90psi on the hose but it still gets to it. I swear on a quiet night I can hear it rusting. I have tried some oil underneath it but to little to late. That’s why the new one gets undercoated and washed now whenever possible and I try not to run it in the snow and salt if possible but I still have to on occasion. We are supposed to have a storm here Friday and Saturday supposed to go meet another couple out for dinner im going to see if we take my girlfriends Toyota she trades every 3-4 years anyway I just have to squeeze in it

I know mine is in a different sphere, but twice a year I go underneath and brush and rattlecan the undercoat, lube everything that needs it, mechanical joints and rubber grommets and such, the usual suspects on the ram, front fender quarters, door bases and rockers, the rear fender matchups with the fiberglass all are clear of any signs of rust formation so keep doing what I’m doing and the general will last  me. You have a great looking red jimmy there, good luck.

I have a few aerosol cans of fluid film I will go under mine in the garage when it’s dry snd check the coverage and spay some more if needed I did that with my last new one

2002 chevy 8.1 Allison.  It runs good yet.  I would like a newer Cummins but I'm holding out as long as I can.  Prior to this I had a 96 club cab 12v 5 spd 2500 without the half doors that open.

My friend found this a while back, it is from Baywatch but rarely seen , knowing how bad mine wallows around in muck and mire i can understand why it wasn’t on the show much, sand driving would have been a nightmare.

I’ve been meaning to add mine for awhile finally got a picture of it the other day. 08 f250 5.4L with a clutch. First new truck I ever bought and fell in love with it. Only reason I bought brand new was in late 08 all the manufacturers were crying and giving rebates like crazy. Plus it was a stick!  Got a 2020 with Godzilla motor to replace it and plan was to keep new one in garage for a year or two, but the salt started getting to the wiring last winter. With going to work at 11:30 at night I didn’t want to end up on the side of the road in a blizzard with no one to call except 24 hour tow my wallet out. For now I keep her around the farm and errands during the day when I could call my father for a tow, but thought keeps crossing my mind to sell it. I just can’t let her go yet. 193000 and I want to hit 200000. Crossmembers on the box rotted out around 4-5 years ago and found a flatbed at auction for $125. Really love the flatbed even though it’s only 7’6”.

How are you liking the new 7.3?  What kind of mileage are you getting?  That motor certainly has gotten my attention and I'm not a ford guy! :)    Have you pulled much with it?

Now I know I posted a Ford above but that does not make me a Ford guy! LOL

I love it. Only getting 12.5-13.5 mpg but after 12 years of the gutless 5.4 I wanted more power than I need and it was a lot cheaper than diesel. $2000 vs $10000. I don’t tow a lot, mostly light stuff, short cattle trailer and dads antique tractors a time or two but didn’t even know there was anything back there.

I should add I get 12.5-13.5 with the 3.55 rears. I think the only other option was 4.60? I would have liked something in the 3.90-4.10 but only two options and knowing I wouldn’t do a lot of towing I went with the higher gears.

Well I paid to have rockers cab corners, bed sides, and an aftermarket tailgate put on this truck maybe 5 years ago.  The tailgate is rusting at the bottom edge and is bent.  The rockers are bubbling again, and there is a large hole in the driver's side inner fender which splashes water up by the battery.  The rear cross member that the spare bolts to completely rusted out and I bolted a used cross member  in after grinding the factory rivets out.  I wire wheeled the frame and bedlinered it with the bed off.  That is coming back through too.  It is decent for its age yet but would be long gone had it not been for all the rust repair and maintenance.

Had to dig around for this pic. It was taken 7 years ago. Wanted to show it before I was dumb enough to drive it for two winters in the salt & whatever that blue liquid is. Was debating selling it & getting something newer, but I'm rather attached to it. Might just get the body redone & do an engine transplant. Would be cheaper & that's after putting in a built motor.
