Dad's 806
Is there a shifter conversion kit for converting to 856 style hi low reverse on my 806. Going into reverse is sometimes a real chore. Thanks
jass1660
You have to get the parts from a salvage yard.

Going into reverse is sometimes a real chore. Thanks What exactly is it doing? Reverse is no harder to engage than high low. Only real advantage to the 56 style arrangement is for loader work. If it grinds, it's the clutch brake, if it's hard to get out of gear your TA is out of adjustment.
Dad's 806
It’s like I need more travel on the shifter so it will go in to reverse

Big Steve
The top cover on the speed transmission needs to be rebuilt or the linkage or both . There wasn't a lot of adjustment built in for wear.

If you can get it, many times it's easier to get the whole rear stand (steering wheel, shift linkage etc.) and just swap it out.
Thesd5488
I stay with 06 style way better if kept in shape especially if on a loader where u us low and reverse back to back way fast then 56 series
catman13
you may have a broken roller on the shift linkage under the deck so its pushing it far enough

Could be linkage up top is wore, linkage under foot is wore, or like others have said top cover bushings and arms are wore.
nepoweshiekfarmalls
A little slop in each connection from the shift lever to the fork with make it harder to shift/ shift completely. With some disassembly and new parts, the slop can be mostly eliminated. Then adjust linkage and transmission brake per the service manual. They can shift well. We have a 706 as our primary loader tractor. Does a decent job.

615 spike
Since I tend to be frugal, when my linkages wore, I bored out the 3/8 inch holes (.375) to 10 mm and used new pins made from 10 mm bolts (.3937) for a cheap fix. cab
Matt Kirsch
My understanding is that converting to 56 shifting is a lot more involved than you probably think. It's not just swap out the box on the side of the console, ba-da-bing, done. Doesn't something have to be changed on/inside the range cover as well? Besides a 56 shifter on a tractor in a salvage yard is likely to be even more worn than what you have.

You have to change the entire top cover, and add the extra rod that goes down through the console. It's a fairly involved job.
