Rusty shackleford
I'm a fan of 11.00 15s on the smaller tractors, with 8 bolt hubs, dont care of its overkill I just like the look

acem
Nice tractor, I hope it works out well. A friend has a salvage yard, Dumas Tractor Salvage. You can call them and order one directly or have me pick one out when I go down. If you call them directly you can get it quickly but they don't always pull nice parts. I can get you nice parts but I don't make it down very often so you have to wait. Thx-Ace
Long Farms
Added coolant conditioner kit off salvage 1066. Top line fits perfect had to make bottom line. Drained all the oils. Both engine and hyd oil looked decent. New set of Firestone 9.5-15 4 rib and good used 15.5x38 firestones on powder coated rims I had sitting out back.
stronger800
Very nice. Did the elbow fitting on the end of the oil cooler clear the frame rail or did you have to remove the cooler to install it? Looks like it cleared. On the two 1066’s we’ve done….they sit to close to the rail to turn. Would those rims be 15” wide?
Long Farms
Oil cooler elbow clears frame rail while turning. Think the rim is 7" or 8" wide.
Long Farms
Last owner said they pulled the 666 out of the mud and wrapped chain around axle. Axle seal was pouring oil. Busted wheels loose and noticed gap around axle cap looked odd. Measured axle tip height and turned 180*. They bent the damn axle...... Decided to go ahead and strip it down further where it sits. Blew off majority of the crap and crud. Im gonna set up a portable water tank and power wash the 666 where it sits before i tare into it.
Jeff-C-IL
Well FUDGE....bent axle (could be worse I suppose). Hey, while you got the tranny tore down....measure up/spec the oil filter cover plate & housing opening so we can get a spacer made..😁

Long Farms
Ive never seen long axles for a 6. Parts list doesnt show it on line. What it does need is front mount hyds. I have set of 656 axles thats all thr same P/Ns. Sold a set of 686 axles last week so that was a close call. I power washed it more today and its starting to clean up finally. Next week ill pull fuel tank and bracket and get real hard spots. Also started putting wire harness order together. Wont get any easier to rewire than tore down like it is.
Jeff-C-IL
I put new wiring on mine from Porch's. There was one wire that was not long enough on the dash harness, think a green one. Told Eric to make a change, no idea if it happened. Everything else was great. Just FYI - not sure your supplier.
Long Farms
I only buy and deal with Porch. Theyve treated me well over the years for several tractors. I like being able to talk to the man making the harnesses.

I brought a used kit home from work last spring to install on mine and spent some time looking it over. My issue was the M&W turbo filter in the way. So, I put the project on hold for the moment. Would still like to do it sometime. That kit will work. I put one on my 766 as soon as they were available. Don't remember if we had a line made up or bent the original, but it worked. Long Farms
Removed bent axle and installed used axle and housing off a 656 hydro. Not a bad chore but getting axle splines to line up with bull gear sucks. Some gunk build up in rear end but not bad. PTO suction tube screen completely stopped up. Draft sensor U bolt was broke and top end that touches draft finger on top plate had be caught by bull gear and smashed. Never know what youll find tore up when you open em up.
Farmall1066
You make things look so easy!! Is that your line up of red tractors out ahead of the 666??
Long Farms
Thats skid row. IHs waiting their turn to be fixed up. Basicly just been stacking them up if they have potential to get going again. 966 in the mix needs to be parted though. One if these days there won'tbe any left around to buy. All thatll be left is whats stacked out back. 1
Jeff-C-IL
As per earlier comment.... While you got the tranny tore down....measure up/spec the oil filter cover plate & housing opening so we can get a spacer made for the deeper filter...😁
beekeep15
wondered how those triangle stands were used. is tractor bolted to stand? appears to be just setting on it.

Happen to be overhauling one right now. Has a pin hole in a sleeve and crankcase filled with antifreeze. Doing a out of chassis rebuild. Owner is leaning towards reliance kit for $2100. Are these good rebuild kits, has anyone had experience with them. Also replacing injectors and injector sleeves, head redone, radiator getting sent out to get rodded out. Also rebuild the pto, this tractor lives on feed grinder. Tach shows 1348 hours. I don't believe water filter kits were available for the 300 series engine, does anyone know if they were or still are?? check with restoration sales in PA. he was selling OEM IH kits last fall for around $1500 Bitty may have some input on it he deals with them
