Long Farms
Local find. '72 IH 666. Factory TA delete. Has 18.4x38 rears but rims look like 15" wide for 16.9x38 from the factory. I have a nice set of 15.5x38 firestones to put on it but not sure on what size fronts. Thinking 6.50-15, 7.50x16 9.5-15. The D312 runs like a sewing machine. Rest needs alot of clean up and fix up. Even has original IH muffler on it thats primo. Ill get more walk around pics before i tear it apart. Straight hood sheetmetal. Fenders have been crinkled. As far as set up im thinking 2 sets of wheel weights per side, rack of 10 75lbers, buggy top canopy, 21

IHhogfarmer
Always kind of thought a 666 or 766 would be a neat tractor to have…. then again I love all the 66’s. Great find.
INTERNATIONAL 1466
Good find once again Brian. I would put 16.9's back on it. I always thought the 15.5's were too short on those.
ArkLa 1086
I think dropping it, and those 75lb weights, off at the end of my driveway is a much better idea. I'll even send you pics.

Jacka
Someone not wanting a TA on any IH'S always puzzled me,but on a smaller frame size 70hp really can't figure that one out.
John Rowehl
Nice find. Every time someone posts something about a 666 or 686 it reminds me of the Hydro 70 I ran when I wore a younger man’s shoes. We had 15.5-38 tires on it. What is that hanging on the front end?
nepoweshiekfarmalls
Nice 666, Brian. You will like it for raking hay. The 312 runs nice. 16.9-38 look good on them!
Jeff-C-IL
Above is the way my 666 is set up as well. 16.9 x38, 7.60-15 fronts. Seems to work pretty well. I'm wishing I could find some of those 75 weights though! I love mine for road mowing and lighter work. The one thing I really want on my 666 is the extension to put a deeper hydraulic oil filter in. Even with a brand new filter, the oil is clearly restricted when cold....the pumps whine and holler until it warms up. Maybe I will have time someday to pull the plate off and draw it up, to get a 1/2" extender plate made.
Sledgehammer
Yep, go with the 16.9x38’s. I think you will like that. The 75’s look about right on the front in my opinion size wise
Long Farms
Apparently Firestone 7.50-16 are out of stock nation wide. Might have to drop down to the 15" rims i have. 1

Might want to check the seal on hydraulic pump where it goes into suction tube.Over time those seals get hard and pump starts sucking air. acem
About 20 years ago I saw a similar 666 for sale in Tushka Oklahoma. That's not too far from you. Could be the same tractor. Thx-Ace
Long Farms
Guy i bought it from got it from Frogville, OK so it could have kept making it way south. It has an old faded dealer decal but cant make it out.
mrfred54
Nice find. 666 are a nice size tractor for all types of jobs. Happen to be overhauling one right now. Has a pin hole in a sleeve and crankcase filled with antifreeze. Doing a out of chassis rebuild. Owner is leaning towards reliance kit for $2100. Are these good rebuild kits, has anyone had experience with them. Also replacing injectors and injector sleeves, head redone, radiator getting sent out to get rodded out. Also rebuild the pto, this tractor lives on feed grinder. Tach shows 1348 hours. I don't believe water filter kits were available for the 300 series engine, does anyone know if they were or still are??

acem
It was sitting on the lot of a heavy equipment yard there on hwy 69. It was in pretty good shape 20 years ago but time takes its toll. It was the first time I had seen a 666. There aren't that many 666s around so it's likely the same tractor. You can use a coolant filter kit from a 400 series and use hoses for the lines that don't fit. The 400 series filter assemblies are very available used. I can get you one if they are not available locally. Thx-Ace

The lines are slightly longer on the 400 series, but I think you can make them work. I brought a used kit home from work last spring to install on mine and spent some time looking it over. My issue was the M&W turbo filter in the way. So, I put the project on hold for the moment. Would still like to do it sometime.

No yard in my area any more....if its not too $$$ I might put one on the 666. Right now I'm dumping some Rust-stop in once a year.

My friend is a JD mechanic and has installed over 25 Reliance kits with no issues yet. He swears by their kits. Sorry, I can't get him off of JD. It appears to be a disease with no vaccine.
stronger800
The water conditioner kits are not available new anymore? Seems like just a year or two, or five, ago I ordered one at the dealer. How wide is the rim for a 16.9-38? 15” I think? I have a set of 14” rims inside of some 15.5x38s and I’ve considered trying to go bigger.
