Mark57
I have a TD7E that has an issue with the brake pedal going down when the left or right steering lever is pulled back. Is this normal? I recently replaced the left brake disc and shoes. I followed the adjustment procedure outlined in the shop manual. This problem existed before I replaced the disc and shoes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

just Dave
My brakes and steering clutches are independent on a IH 150BÂ I don't know your model. Check brake band pull off springs on top front 1/4 of band? Lube every pin in the brake system for good measure. Good luck

Mark57
I need to clarify what is happening, when I am partially depressing the brake pedal and at the same time I pull back the left or right steering lever, (like trying to turn left or right while going down a slope) the brake pedal drops down a few inches. I hope that makes sense.
just Dave
I looked back (18 Mo) to a earlier post of yours on this machine. Did you finish the brake work and all was fine til now? ..............or are you just getting it back together now? My crawler brake set up is much dif. so I would look for a reply from a better coach but it does not sound rite to drop if it is already being applied. Stopping short on a repair of this kind of eqpt. can cause twice the work.
Mark57
Ok, let me begin the long explanation: I completed the repairs to the brakes by replacing the left brake disc and all of the clutch and brake linings a few weeks ago. The problems has always existed since I have owned the machine which I bought in March 2020. At the time of purchase the steering and brakes seemed to work ok for a very short period of time and then I started having problems with it being unable to steer to the left. It appears that the previous owner adjusted to left brake to the point that it was metal to metal to be able to sell the machine to some unsuspecting (me) person but made it seem that the left brake was working. I replaced all the clutch and brake linings and at that time I should have bitten the bullet and replaced the scored left brake disc. I tried to be cheap and did not replace the disc so eventually the scored disc destroyed the new lining and I was back to the same problem. This time I replaced the disc and lining and it has been running fine with the exception of the issue with the brake pedal dropping. If this is normal then I will live with it, it just give one a every uneasy feeling when it happens. Thanks in advance for any help.
td9inidaho
I might be of no help at all, I by far have only enough knowledge to get myself in trouble. That said, the newer machines, my understanding is you don't have to use the brake at the same time as you are pulling the levers back like you have to on the older 9's and ? I understand it to work like this. First bit of lever pull disengages the clutches, with resistance on that side the machine will turn, without, you pull some more and the lever then engages the brake on that side, soooo maybe you are feeling the linkage movement from the lever, through the peddle. I have only operated an 8E, and will be today, I will try what you are doing to see if mine does that. Again, I apologize if I'm totally wrong with your 7. Just trying to help. Will let you know how my 8 works later today. Mark
1566 JIM
Try readjusting the brakes if they start to get where needs adjusted the pedal will jump a couple of inches when using the steering. That is usually when you can tell need adjusted. If you just put in new clutches and brakes will have to adjust a few times till get worn in then usually hold.
