1586 no mcv pressure

Well here we go again, i hooked the 15' up to the bush hog to knock back some brush around the crop fields and everything worked fine. I shut it off and when i came back i had no steering or brakes and the lube light is on constantly. I checked the dump valve it is not stuck, so i'm guessing the pump quit again. My question is, is there anything else i am missing that might cause this, before i tear into it for the umptenth time.

I have had the mc valve off of this thing at least 8 times that i can remember blown gaskets, warped plate, bad pumps, etc. i am about ready to sell her for salvage.

My guess is the Chinese pump locked up and stripped the key again but i'm just guessing, this pump has been in there since March maybe 50 houirs of use.

What does the oil look like? What does the hydraulic filter look like? The only "15" I ever worked on was having serious MCV issues due to the brakes failing and contaminating the oil with particles so fine that the filter didn't catch it all. Also check the screen that goes up against the hydraulic filter to be sure that the bypass valve isn't stuck open with debris.

Will the pto engage at this time?  If not the trouble is probably in the PPlate. if pto spins the trouble is elsewhere. and a good cow magnet helps on the brake filings.

Sounds like you have had this apart a bunch and that's not usually a problem on the 15's. Tell more us more.

Yes been through 2 steering hand pumps 1 new 1 used at least 5 aftermarket MCV pumps and probably 8 or 9 gasket sets. It has had all new oil , not the yellow buckets, several filter changes along with a system flush with diesel fuel. The main hydraulics and PTO have always worked . It does have a loader joystick tied into the supercharge line . I am starting to wonder if something is wrong in loader system contaminating the MCV system ?

You need to get a service manual and preform a test on each part of the hydraulic system. There is a whole chapter on hydraulic tests. Thx-Ace

I have the 86 series manual and had the hydraulic shop out with there flow rater it was all within specs then. I just can’t keep it working maybe it has brake lining or other issues I don’t know but it’s about to hit the auction block that I do know.

  • 2 weeks later...

Finally got the 1586 hauled home and opened up since it rained. Found the McColloch pump locked up and the key sheared off . I took the pump apart and found a tiny piece of metal between the gears . Trying to figure out where it came from the filter is clean the screen is clean and there is no sign of metal in the transmission housing.

I just can’t figure out where it could have come from, any ideas from anyone appreciated.

We were talking about the loader circuit maybe being the culprit. Even though it shows no outward signs of any issues I am thinking about adding a filter in-line just to be on the safe side. I don’t think the pump is hurt at all ,I believe that the piece of debris would have gone right through if it wouldn’t have caught it when it first was first started. The copper plates have minimal scarring ,I ordered another gasket set a key and a new lock nut and we’ll see how it goes.

I remember seeing a post about eliminating the so called supper charge line,i can't find it back. i can't eliminate it because it is tied into my loader valve but i could run it back in the housing somewhere beside the MCV pump

If I had the trouble you have had I would move on to something else. Seems almost impossible to have that much trouble, it must  be the same problem causing your troubles.

I keep thinking, this time i have got it fixed. First real factory cabed tractor i ever owned. The others have been after me for years to get rid of it but it has been a really good tractor up until the MCV issues started. Even if i do decide to sell it, i want it to be right for someone else.I have been on the other end of someone pawning there problems off on others and i can't do that. some of the issues have been bad parts some have been my fault and some i just don't know.
