brahamfireman
Aunts, husband's, dad passed and his 2nd wife ended up with all the equipment. I've helped him with electrical work on this tractor before so I've seen it a bit. It's lived outside for many many years, been a victim of shade tree mechanics but nothing that's not fixable. Yesterday I shot a number at her on the tractor and she didn't even haggle for more, I wrote her a check on the spot and literally drove it home 1.5 miles. It needs a trans top cover rebuild, it clicks in reverse so I'm sure someone chipped a tooth off the reverse idler gear, 3 point adjusters are all stripped out, fenders flop all over. Hack job wiring won't charge, and lights don't work BUT it's got something special you can all see in the pics. Since I don't have anywhere heated to work on it, it'll most likely sit until spring, then I've got big plans for it.

Dave Shepard
Engine out of a 12? Would just be 407D for 856?
IHKeith
Great looking rig, looks like it will keep good company with all the beauties in the background 👍

If there's such a thing. My 806 wheatland with turbo and dad's 806 row crop with has come further along since the pic.
Long Farms
856s have DT407s "Diesel Tractor" 1256s, 1026s and 1456s have TT407. "Turbo Tractor" Clean straight 856 Custom. Lots of potential.

I'm assuming it's out of a 1256, the now deceased guy bought it just like it sits so who knows when it got a different motor. Oddly they didnt use the 1256 fan. On edit, I see Long Farm's burst my bubble on the 1256 motor:( Either way I only really wanted it because of the turbo.

Lars (midessa)
Don’t look like a Custom from here.
oldscoutdiesel
I don't see Custom either because Dad had one as his first "Diesel" after a long line of gas burners.

Long Farms
Very easily with out even seeing the S/N tag with "CU" on it. It has the smaller 37gal fuel tank, the 856 emblems dont say FARMALL. It had a decal on 856 emblem that said CUSTOM when it left the factory. Time and weather removed it. It still has the original battery hold downs vs battery covers. Sheet metal pieces that most ih are missing and small accessories customs never had. 2nd hyd and 2nd fender light was added to your 856 like most added to 756/856 customs.
Farmall Doctor
To me, an IH just looks naked without the front weight bracket. Nice unit though! I'd run it!

I haven't looked under the hood close enough yet but I'm guessing the tank got changed when the turbo was added. I've seen aftermarket 856 side emblems with custom on top, and some just blank, did any actually leave the factory blank like mine appears to have? Here's the serial tag, definitely a custom, can't believe I never noticed that till now.

nepoweshiekfarmalls
I knew it was a Custom right away with the small fuel tank, battery hold downs, 6 bolt front hubs and taillight location. Wonder if they replaced the small air filter when the turbo was installed? Here is the 856 Custom I grew up on:
