Farming Enthusiast
I might be putting the cart in front of the horse here just a little but I was wondering which you guys think is the better tractor and/or would rather have. I'm thinking about buying one not because I need one but because I want one. I love my 806 so I'd like to see what a bigger one is like. I'd use it for probably some pulling, plowing for fun and drives. I think the 1206 is by far the nicest looking tractor ever made when restored but I don't think I wanna pay the premium price for one and think the 56s look better with some patina. And out of the 56 series I was thinking 1456 because that's the biggest of that platform.
nate
They are both tough old tractors. The 1456’s are bringing just as much if not more than a 1206 so the price is a mute argument. Buy what you like and who cares what others think!
806Jordy
A 1256 is also another option if you can find one.

bitty
I would like to 1456 someday ....... starts as a dream, probably never obtain it though
Wes806
Both are good choices IMO. But if it was me I'd go 1206 but I'm a 06 series fan. You can't go wrong with either one thru.
Long Farms
Both.... Most 361s are not as good of starters as 407s, 06 shifters are not the greatest thing, i like the wider 26/56 platform with fender extensions. 56s had more factory options. 1456 is just a brute and just heavier built front to back (the list of differences is extensive). Easier to find a 1206 than 1456. 1206 will always have its own paint scheme and identity. Most cant even name 5 differences of a 1256 vs 1456. Id take a good 1206 over a rougher 1456. Side by side both good condition 1456 all the way.
acem
An 856 is a great tractor and affordable. 2
ny bill o
got both, but my 1456 would be the last work tractor I would ever sell.

We already have big 66 86 and 88 series to farm with so it would be a toy. Do either or both have the snort to them like a good 806 when you crack the throttle? I'd have to assume so. My 806 seams to have more attitude than even our 1066!
Cummings1486
Either one is a good choice. I have both 06 and 56 series tractors and I tend to favor the look of a 56 series but I’m partial to a 1256 as most on here know why. Price wise youll be in the same ball park as both are a hot commodity. You’ll have a few more options with a 1456 than a 1206 (ie, tilt steering, hydraulic seat, etc). Either way you’d have a great tractor with either one you chose! 1
5088
If you think a 361 sounds good wait till you wind up a 407 with a load on it

606 diesel
I could stare at that 1256 all day.😁
Long Farms
No need to poopoo and pass on a good 1256 either.
IHandJDman
1206s always stand out because of the paint, but I'm partial to the 1456. It's my favorite tractor and would be my choice.

BoilerRed
Sometimes you guys make me envious. Had a 1468 once, trouble was it was 1/32 scale and made of plastic. Had a good time putting it together though and it sure looked good on my dresser. 😁
smfarms
I played with a 1456 when I was a kid. Now I ‘m a big kid at heart and have the real thing. Still would rather be on that open station tractor on a nice fall day chiseling than the 9380 QT
Mark (EC,IN)
I'd say that is a question that only you can answer for yourself. Both are great tractors , but myself I went with what caught my eye 55 years ago when I was 15 and that was the white trim paint. So I fixed up this old girl a few years ago.

Ooooweee that's a beautiful tractor! I grew up with 66 and 86 tractors but it wasn't until I saw a restored 1206 at a pull that I started seeing tractors as not just a tool for a job, but a thing of beauty! B.B.
You can add a Black Stripe 1566 to your list as that's a beast of a good looking open station tractor as well. I wanted an open station to play with. I narrowed it down to a 1206, 1456, or a BS 1566. I recently got a 15 but now I still want the 1206 and 1456 lol

I'm getting the wife wore down to let me have 1 more, if I ask for two I'm afraid it'll blow up in my face!
