Cdfarabaugh
Neighbor purchased a Hydro 86 out of NY (sight unseen I believe) and barely got to run it much before it petered out. Gave me a ring to look at it tonight and stopped for a quick look on the way home and it is very weak and stalls at a low drive pressure both directions. Pulled dipstick to check oil and found the problem quickly as the oil is frothed like a cappuccino. If this were a gear drive I'd look right away at the little jumper tube into the pumps, but this being a hydro and having that big suction manifold for the charge/servo pump, where are common suction leaks at? I think air is getting into the hitch pump as well as even though hydraulics work, they're a bit noisy and you can feel air in the steering circuit after you shut it off. Sounds like water in the oil change it quick

Also is frothing enough its bringing the level up well above full.
ksfarmdude
I'd do a oil sample then to make sure if the tractor has been setting for while and you don't know its history
striker782
There is a rubber hose in the rear compartment near the ring gear that goes from the suction tube upward to a fitting coming down from top cover. I have seen that hose split above the oil level and cause oil to aerate. If you replace be sure and use oil resistant hose. 606 diesel
Why didn't they just use a steel tube like every other IH tractor they made?
ksfarmdude
I had that hose blow on my 656 years ago it will affect hydraulic functions if the three point won't lift any weight that's what I experienced with mine , I replaced it thru the third link cover its not easy either
Cdfarabaugh
What is the purpose of that hose?
ksfarmdude
That's a very good question Its not a high pressure hose because just held on with hose clamps but it will spray oil out

All the hose dose is make the air captive in the system
