IH 1466 ser # 7103

Recommended Posts

Havent posted any pics in this thread in awhile so here it goes…

last fall I put the heat houser on it and plowed off and on up into December.  Used 3 different plows.  Hard to beat that 730!  It got 4 new tires over winter.  It’s hooked on to one of my 9 shank chisels now to do a little chiseling.  Good running ole 14.  Can’t wait to get it all painted up!

Nice 14! Is that the same one with the Chem Farm tanks or a different one? Also what rear tires did you put on it? They look good!

Different tractor.  The other one is a local one owner.  This one came out of IA.

  • 4 months later...

Is the dash surround red on early 66 series?   Mines black but it's also a 76 model BS.

Looks great and can't wait to see finished pics.   Would love to go to HCOP to see it in person

👍🏼👍🏼 I have never plowed up there but they say it’s normal minus a bottom because of how hard that ground is. You shouldn’t have any issue with that setup in my opinion.

Tough plowing is the norm in my neighborhood!  I don’t  know any other way.

So you into old Field Boss tractors as well?

NO!  Belongs to one of the guys who works for me on the farm.  His family is Oliver and Whites.

Does that ground actually pull hard? It looks like it would be a dream to plow. If you pull a plow across the ground here, it looks like a rainbow. There is every color of dirt in it. It takes a big horse to pull through the ground that looks blue or white “here”.

When the ground (clay) is blue it is pretty mean in terms of tillage.  I was just working yesterday the small patch of blue clay that will be planted to wheat in a few weeks.  It's about 50 X 50 and part of a 21 acre field that is tough ground.  I wish I had some of that black gumbo however tough it plows.  Short of river bottom land Ontario loam is the best ground to hope for and will raise the 3 C's.  Cabbage, carrots, and sweet corn.

That is gumbo like in the river bottoms.  When this was settled these farms were virtually swamps.  My great great grandfather started putting in clay tile in the 1890’s.  We have re tiled most of it with pattern systems.  The black dirt is 4-6ft deep.  It is tough going!  That picture I was running low 3rd in t/a pulling 5/18’s and it was one heck of a load, and that was in the spring!   I have seen many people leave here after a plow day scratching their head.  For all of its drawbacks it will grow some corn as tops out the productivity index chart.

7103 is ready to go to Rantoul with a few hours to spare.  We will head down tomorrow, get the dual on, plow hooked up and be ready for Thursday morning.
