billonthefarm
I saw a sale bill awhile back and of course any 66 catches my eye. This one really caught my eye. Once I noticed the holes punched in the tin work I immediately looked at the serial #. It was 7103. The third 1466. Being busy with harvest I couldn’t run over and look at it. I called the auction company and they told me had been sitting in the weeds but fired right up with a set of batteries. The knew no history. It was a estate and the widow didn’t know anything about the machinery. Being busy I just threw a bid on the on line bidding and kept picking corn. The day of the auction I watched my phone and was surprised but very happy to get the winning bid! A friend went and picked it up Friday. There are several oddities about it. Consensus from the IH group on FB is this was a pre production tractor that was used for photos and farm shows before being sold to the public. It appears to have went to NE IA then to SE IA where I bought it after 50 years. I am looking forward to restoring this tractor. It will take awhile. I have a couple projects in front of it. I will get it full operational this winter and run it around before final restoration. This may truly end up a shed queen when I am done with it. I will post pics as It goes thru the process for my self as well as everyone else to enjoy with the hope to have it at the next HCOP in August 2023!

IHhogfarmer
I assume you’re taking the cab off? Will be it just a open station or ROPS?
billonthefarm
Cab will come off as it appears it was a open station tractor originally
IHhogfarmer
So the holes in the hood are for emblems right? Then they decided to put decals on after that?

Sledgehammer
Looking forward to seeing this progress. Looks like an interesting machine for sure. Any sign of a plate riveted on the column area like some of the other experimental machines have had? Maybe that was only on earlier series?? This tractor mirrors the first 1066 which sold on auction a year or so ago.

russtred
Did any of the 66s come from the factory with emblems? I thought they were all decals. That's what our 1971 1066 has.

billonthefarm
I had a couple of the 1466’s sitting next to each other yesterday and I took a couple pics. The first pic is 7103. Notice the side rail to bell housing connection is like most 66 series’s tractors. I even looked and in the pics of 1066 serial #7101 it also looks like this. The second pic is a early 72. It has the shorter weldment which doesn’t have the top bolt hole. Sometime in 72 they went to one that had the xtra bolt and stuck with that for the rest of production. It is interesting that the very first 66’s had the extra bolt, then it went away, only to come back for most of the run of tractors.

606 diesel
I would say she has been turned up considering the pump and they added the intercooler to keep from killing the turbocharger.
mrfred54
Wow!!! Nice find. I'm sure it will turn out to be a beauty. Notice it has the old style hyd. filter cover, and I have never seen a drain plug on the lower coolant elbow.

jobee1066
Definately a cool tractor. Are those chrome shifter handles painted black?
