Sledgehammer
Snagged this pic at HCOP. Out of dumb luck I took the pic right as the radiator cap blew off. Made a gif out of it so it could be shared. I slowed down the clip and could actually see the cap fly out. 9 1

Sledgehammer
It was awfully hot and I’m sure that machine was never built for 200bu corn. I do believe he was running again the next day. We thought it might have been the top of the radiator or something more critical but evidently it was just a hose or cap.
1256pickett
Nice camera work. I’ll take lucky any time it comes my way.
Missouri Mule
It's amazing how tough some of them old 6cyl gas motors are. I'm not even sure what it has, but I've been around my gleaner, ford 300-6, 250 chevys, etc that I honestly think coolant is an option in. My gleaner rad has leaked for years, and a couple times it was probably a little low cutting fescue or wheat 😂 tough little engines.
Nebraska1206
Of course, it'd have to happen at a time & place for people to see! Hopefully he was able to add some coolant & keep going.

My Dad melted the pistons out of a slant 6 in the 300 combine but somedays nothing was tough enough for him. 😀 After watching again I saw some black smoke too so maybe 4 cyl Perkins
Big Bud guy
Is that a 300? I actually wouldn’t mind one because you don’t see them out here. Too small of a combine. 410s had the 292 along with the JD 4400.
red2thebone sr
Weren’t the MF 300’s a Chrysler slant 6?
WishIhada1466
I was to the left in the video a little ways but saw it happen. At least he made it out of the corn before it happened.

Enclosed engine bay just right of the operator. Couldn’t tell for sure. Buddy thought it was a diesel.

ny bill o
sure it wasn't a 510? Black smoke says diesel. The 510 in my hay barn has the 6 cyl 354 Perkins. Plus, the discharge auger is quite long, maybe more than a 300 would have? Anyway, great timing for the shot. After typing the above, I looked in my 1983 Official Guide from the Dealers Assn, and the 300, 410, and 510 all were available with diesel engines. And, Grain tank size: 300-56 bu 410- 73 bu 510- 85 bu A lot different than today's monsters.
randy hall
looks too narrow in the back to be bigger than a 300, the 300 used a 225 slant six Chrysler, I don't know what a 205 used for a powerplant.
ksfarmdude
If its a 410 it would have a 292 chevy in it
Big Bud guy
The 300 used a 30” separator. The 510 used a 56” separator. Huge difference.
Sledgehammer
It says 300 on the side.
Missouri Mule
That's just a relief valve lifting holding back the ponies from escaping into the driveline. Wouldn't want to marr up the stalks and leave divots for someone else to deal with when she bucks and throws rooster tails like a mud skimmer. 😂
Sledgehammer
There were other harvest machines running. Even a stationary Loadstar with a combine on the back...errr....shelling machine?

Seems like whenever something breaks down/ goes wrong it's always right up near the busy county highway, never way out in the back!

Interesting to note, it looks like it's PTO drive & has a power unit. Strange. Mike
