Prayers and best wishes for our athletes in Japan, opening ceremonies for the “2020” games is tonight, which are being held ‘sans spectators’ crazy times for sure but I predict a large medal count for our men and women.

Women soccer took a knee for the anthem. I won't be watching a single event.

Wife said it was before or after anthem, not during? (Doesn’t make it right)

Just my opinion but taking a knee is disrespectful and does not prove anything but the fact that you are ungrateful of being a US citizen and gifted athlete.  All of them that want to be disrespectful like that can stay in Japan. We do not need your selfish attitude here.

It wasn’t even in Japan, it was 4-5 months ago, still disrespectful, surely don’t agree with the individuals, but we have a lot of accomplished athletes who have worked hard to get there, and so many  DO deserve support.

They are gifted to be certain. Honestly, I never had any use for sports on the world stage or any other so it won’t affect my viewing much either way.

I've checked out of paying attention to the Olympics this year for various similar reasons too

Re your women's hockey team - after all their dramatics seems they have a ticket home courtesy of the Swedish girls

All this makes an interesting comparison to your 1936 rowing 8 that rained on Hitler's parade in Berlin.  That crew sure didn't have a "woke" upbringing!

I've just read "The Boys in the Boat" by Daniel James Brown and would recommend it even if you aren't into rowing.

I think you mean women’s soccer team, hockey is Winter Olympics.

As far as I am concerned, I don't care who/what/where/when. You take a knee, you disrespect this country, I give you  zero respect.

Some things are not tolerated. Not negotiable.  End of discussion.

I could care less ,  if the media would stop giving them air time regarding the matter they would stop doing it.

Won’t be watching, never have, never will, don’t care one bit what they do, life goes on for me.

Unfortunately it furthers the media’s agenda.

If an athlete doesn't stand for their nation anthem.  They shouldn't be allowed to represent their country!

If I was a coach for any Olympic team, it would be known that any disrespect towards our country and you are off the team.

That should be a standard for all coaches and all of America.

The lack of respect for your teammates, your coaches and yourself, by not standing in the glory of your achievements and the achievements of your teammates is simply appalling.

The time and effort it takes to achieve greatness, to overcome the challenges and obstacles placed before you should be celebrated with pride and humbleness that you HAVE overcome your obstacles, YOU have accomplished your goals and in this moment you are proud of what you achieved with your family and friends, and your teammates by your side.

This should be a moment where you can show the world that anyone who is determined AND motivated can do anything you set your mind to.  People who are meak, weak, timid, or just afraid look upon you in your time of glory and say “ I too can do this”! I too have what it takes to…!”
But with these protests, these woke privileged idiots doing what they think is thought provoking is anything but inspiring. It’s demeaning, it is far from encouraging and it’s a damn shame they have the attitude of I can do it but you can’t… whatever happened to lifting up your “brothers in arm” ( forgive the expression) Whatever happened to encouraging others to achieve their own greatness, whatever happened to becoming an inspiration?
Good and evil does exist. And evil has raised its ugly head for the world to see. If only the world is smart enough to take off the rose colored glasses… time will tell???

My take on this is a soldiers view. I swore and oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. Among the rights granted in the Constitution is the right to peacefully protest. Taking a knee while being disrespectful is a form of peaceful protest. I did not give up my right to peacefully protest and shall do so by boycotting any sport when the athletes are disrespectful of our country.

Sorry Seth. On this matter I cannot agree with your view at all. I've needed food, thus needed farmers. I've needed goods therefore needed factory workers and truck drivers. Having served overseas I've needed mariners and seaman. Like anyone, doctors, nurses and a large selection of medical services. I've needed snot nosed kids behind the counter to ring up the things I buy. I've needed road workers to maintain the highways and the other folks who keep my electricity going. I have never ever needed and athlete.

Standing for the anthem should be a requirement and if you don't want to then you don't compete there are plenty of peeps that would be glad to take your place

I may watch some events for the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.

I enjoy beach volley ball for the mental gymnastics, game strategy, bouncing, athleticism and competetiveness. ?

I hope they all keep wearing the bikini bottoms and don't switch to shorts.

A nice bottom will still show through with shorts but it is not the same.

Beach volley ball should require swim suits or just call it volley ball.
