Tractor of the week # 10 1256

Recommended Posts

This week we are checking out all the 1256's out there. We currently are without a 1256, but hope to add one again someday. We have owned two over the years. I do not have any pictures of the first one and the only picture of the last one is of the day it came home. It had the cab removed and it was set up like our 1456's. I also included another picture of a nice 1256. I do have a favorite 1256 currently. It belongs to one of our members. I did not want to steel his tractor, so hopefully it shows up. Again on this fine site, lets see em y'all!

Mine is reincarnated as a yard tractor. I have owned it about 4 years.

Just a couple pictures I had on my phone. Not my machines. The second is a vintage puller and has a mean look in my opinion.

I had one years ago that I bought as a total POS. Went through it front to rear, but didn't do much to the engine except for a water pump. New clutch and TA and a lot of front end work. Shifting and seat and many other things. Had Pete 1468 and his neighbor paint it and sold it to a farmer near Ellsworth WI.  This was before I had a cell phone capable of taking pictures, still had a bag phone. May have a picture somewhere but don't know where to start looking.

Mine was a Farmall but had the 2 front headlights in the grille. It had to be an add on by a former owner. It had the 1206 style 3 point with the removable pointed arms.

Dads,    Needs some love,  bought it that way quite a few years ago for 2200 without fenders.   Threw on the standard fenders that we had laying around.    Tractor is a Farmall with standard drawbar.

Here’s ours. 1967 model serial number 7559. Bought brand new by my grandfather and great uncle. By far my favorite tractor on the farm. Left us (not by choice) in 1989 and found its way back home alittle over a year ago. Will never leave again as long as I’m alive. Plan on restoring it sometime in the next few years. Cab will come off and be open station as it was originally.

When I bought my 806 this was sitting right next to it, few more $ though but I really wished I could have swung it! Looking back I wish I had.....

The Kitty Cat seems happy with your 1256!

Nate I think you got a nice original looking tractor there. Looks great with those duals on it. If it was mine I wouldn't ever repaint it, just a little rubbing compound on the sheet metal to get rid of some of the dull/dead paint and a coat of wax every year or so. I like the fender mounted lights as well, just need a fender mount radio and it would be perfect in my mind. It's a tough looking tractor for sure, you've made me jealous. Makes me kick myself for passing on a 1256 for 3500$ about 2 years ago now.

My 1256 had a little transformation this winter. Took cab off to do brakes and decided it was too much rust for my abilities so I put fenders on. They came in white primer, I figured that’s good enough for now. It works the way it is and when time and money allow fix it up right. Maybe paint in 5 years? I’ve had her 12-14 years and still ain’t done much beyond regular maintenance. Someday she’ll be fixed up nice. Maybe when I retire!

One of my mother's relatives has a 1256.  I suspect it will stay in the family as time moves forward.

My father bought a 2 year old 856 in ‘71. It’s still with the farm today. Same thing it will never leave the family and is the reason I wanted a 1256, that way my brother and I won’t have to fight over the 8. I’m ok with not getting it as long as it’s in the family and I got my 12

I’ve posted this pic here before. This is me on my boss’s  fairly new at the time F1256 from back when I was in high school. My sister took this pic when I had stopped at our home for lunch one day when I was out chisel plowing on one of my boss’s rental farms in the area. She didn’t do a very good job of centering the image and chopped off the back of the tractor and the mounted IH 55 chisel plow. I think this pic is from 1971.

For a kid in high school that 1256 felt like Godzilla and I felt like king of the world being able to run it.

A little over a year later, my boss traded up to a new 1466 with the deluxe cab. The 1466 was cool, but a big part of me also missed his 1256.

I went back to the dealer one day shortly after the 1256 got traded in there. I wanted to get some pics of it on the lot. But the salesman said it already got sold and went to Indiana. But I didn’t think back then to ask where abouts. I also never wrote down the serial number dang it.

Anybody else here from Indiana recognize this one, with that canopy on it and it came from factory with no Turbo decals on it? I know it’s been ages ago. Someone may have restored it since then, took the canopy off it, put Turbo decals on it, etc. Or, it may have gotten the crap beat out of it and destroyed by now. I wish I would have thought to take more pics back then dang it, and kept a record of serial numbers. Nuts.

First tractor my brother and I bought back in 1998, could have had it for $2900, but right when the auctioneer was about to say sold, another person bid a few more times, so $4400 got it home.769C4EF6-EA19-4A72-A4A7-8832D8C2D8B4.thumb.jpeg.e6c1987ce276705f4a9069bc7c1098c1.jpeg
