Speedway Motor Museum

Recommended Posts

Hey @lorenzo and others who may have visited. Is the Speedway Motor Museum as good as it looks on the web. Sometime this summer I was thinking myself and the oldest could meet up with youngest to see the museum. Would a couple of hours do it justice ? They would probably want to golf or something after { not me } as pasture is for cows. I know there is a military / auto museum on west maybe in the Grand Island area that I would like to see as well. Suggestions?

It’s way way better then anything you can imagine . And NO , two hours is not even close. You will need a half day minimum and like the Smithsonian it changes so you will need to come back and want to come back .

I enjoyed the Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneer in Grand Island.  Interesting exhibits of rural prairie life.  The CNH combine plant is just around the corner.

Sounds like I need to see the Speedway Motors Museum on my next trip.

On a scale from one to ten, the Stuhr Museum is a 4 and the Speedway Motors Museum is a ten .

Here is a photo of AJ banging on the first one at Indy.

He jumped out of the car during the race trying to get the car going again

When Ford pulled out of Indy racing in 72 they rebadged that engine a Foyt and he used them till the rules changed at Indy

If he's into autos make it a trifecta, after seing the Speedway Museum head up to Auburn IN and take in the Auburn, Cord, Dusenberg Museum & the jump over to South Bend & tour the Studebaker Museum.

How does Indy motor museum stack up with these three?  I enjoyed the little town of speedway as much as visiting the track.

Thursday night?   That dosent sound like you’ll have much time to see everything ,  you will have to rush through it to see it all in three or more hours.   If your still here Saturday morning there’s a farmers market five minutes away downtown  also.

Better check the hours at the museum .

Obviously the Speedway Museum is regulated  to the 500 / racing history. The others are more of  antique car museums though The Studebaker was involved in a lot more than just the production of automobiles and has a lot of that history as well

That was my query, Indy went right back to the start, the harroun marmin, the novis, etc, but i find anything car oriented very interesting, Studebakers started making wagons I believe, the auburn museum would be a thrill just to see the "doozys" so far ahead of their time and so great looking at a time when all the cars were striking, I mean the boattail at a time when everything was basically square back, if it isn't a pickup  or a super car these days I can't tell them apart.

It was a real treat, our only annoyance was when we got there something was going on and we couldn't get to the pagoda or the bricks, it had to suffice seeing the bricks in the museum.
