Kids after prom party last night.

Recommended Posts

Our small town had their junior prom last night. Being the parent of a junior class member they expect you to volunteer for the after prom party hosted by community , my wife went to the planning meetings and helped set it up.. It really showed how well behaved and polite the kids are. I think 110 kids attended the party. They said everybody from prom came and the few junior seniors that didn’t attend came to the party. Community and businesses had donated about 10,000 or more worth of prizes and door prizes. Every kid won something. The big prizes were two 60 inch TVs one for junior and one for a senior. A dewalt tool and Milwaukee tool set also. Then they had a casino like game night, with poker , craps, bingo, air money grab machine, plinko game and more. Kids won tickets they printed their name on and were able to do ticket drop into bags for items they wanted. The kids were very well behaved and most were excited just to have a chance to be out and enjoy life again. It was fun watching them. My job was to be the door man once you were in you had to stay in and with permission slip signed by parents we were to notify them if kids left early. Like I said no problems kids were well behaved and at 2:15 am they had a hypnotist entertain them for an hour and a half. Just when you think kids are goobers they change your mind.

That’s awesome!! Our school was the same way, after party all night at the school, once in, you couldn’t leave, if you did, you weren’t getting back in.  I bet you had a good time as well?

Dale...God bless you for being a chaperone for a night those kids will probably remember for the rest of their lives. Sounds similar to how many schools around here do prom anymore. My wife and I were chaperones for prom 15 years ago or so....we did it more than once. I can't remember exactly why, but parents of junior/senior students couldn't be chaperones at the prom, so they were always looking for volunteers for prom/post prom.

One big thing about doing it this way is that is really cuts down on all the drinking/driving issues associated with prom night. Seems like back in my day, somebody somewhere got severely hurt or killed just about every year around prom time in this area. Can't think of anyone locally getting hurt on prom weekend for nearly 20 years now. I remember one year we loaded all the kids up after prom onto a bus, and took them over to Pierre(50 miles away) to the bowling alley and let them bowl until 2AM or so, and loaded them back up to bring them back to town for post-prom breakfast. Wife and I got home at 5:30 that morning IIRC. Good time had by all.

I remember we had a hypnotist at one of our post proms as well. A couple of the chaperones got hypnotized...they were more entertaining than the kids being hypnotized.

Good deal.. i had to haul my drunk cousin out of bed with some dude to get to a concert we had tickets for the next day and stop every 1/2 hr so she could puke.... good times.. I would take the hypnotist.

Sounds like a good time was had by all.

We never did proms up here at all. Our grad party consisted of our class of 25 or so kids and each of us could invite up to 4 friends. I didn’t want a bunch of drunks in my car so I didn’t invite anyone lol. A parent or guardian had to accompany each group so there was a sober driver The other kids in my class wanted me to invite them so they could drink without their parents there but I didn’t go along with it.  There was probably 80-100 kids there at the party at the farm. No trouble was caused just a bunch of us having a good time. Everyone got home safe too.  School wanted nothing to do with it. Any time it was brought up at a grad meeting with the school the teachers/principal would Leave the room and let us discuss it as technically they couldn’t promote it at all.

Back when my kids were in HS they did the same. It was safe, the kids had fun, no one got drunk, killed, or pregnant. The hypnotist was a great hit as well.

Just posting picture of Facebook post thanking the business page. The girl parents are talking about was truly excited and just giddy about the after prom party and she won some nice stuff. Like I said all the kids were very well behaved and polite.
