826 D front main seal replacement Q

our 826 German has a front main seal leaking like a stuck hog.  Spoke with a couple of mechanics, one of whom said to pull the lower pulley and replace the seal the front bolster has to come out, the other  said it didn't.   The second guy has a tendency to say things are simpler than they end up being in reality.  Which one is right?

I can’t say if you can do a German without removing the bolster. I remove it, gives me more room to work . Case Ih or  there is an aftermarket kit that includes the seal, o ring, and the wear collar.

You don't have to remove the front bolster, we've done the front crank seal on Dad's 826 & the dampner pulley as the tractor sat in the shop.  Take note, the taper retaining rings on a German engine can throw a guy fits getting it tightened up even & true so the pulley doesn't wobble.
