Here we are soon to be April, and still 2-3 weeks away from field work in my part of MN! So I had some time to tinker with a few projects before summer gets here, rebuilt the seat suspension on the 1456, wow is that much better!!! And I took a chance on a muffler for a 12-1456 on an online auction in Missouri, and I struck it IH rich!! Factory 530577R2 muffler that was hardly used from what I can tell!! FD352784-62F9-4FFF-B05F-2B6D4D82398A.thumb.jpeg.46cd78bbc6224560f7c9195e50549d7f.jpeg
So cast your vote! Before and after pictures with straight pipe, and then muffler.  Which do you prefer? I liked the straight pipe, until I put the muffler on, @Long Farms is right, I’ll like it with the muffler, it just looks right!!A76F8072-C0EC-4C8C-A40C-3C828CDC48E7.thumb.jpeg.5c9f8b15c67de13ea0a0bb233baae839.jpeg7B78A7EC-1EF6-4B78-AD17-73DBADE8DEBC.thumb.jpeg.b35e356ba5af14e1fe2ab690a16d467f.jpeg

With open station, sound control would play into it for me.

However, I like the look of a big ol fat straight pipe too?

My vote is straight pipe

I like the sound of a pipe but on an open station it could get annoying. A lot depends on what kind of work and the rpm range the tractor is used in.

They had a 4650 at the farm that I planted with. I put a pipe on it one year and enjoyed listening to its song all spring but I only ran just under half throttle pulling the planter. After planting, one of the other guys took the tractor to pull a manure tanker. That pipe lasted three loads before he was asking for us to put the muffler back on.

Blaine,   We had a straight pipe on the 14 chopping corn one fall.   That was all it took.    If you weren’t driving it it sounded good.  Put a factory muffler on and that 407 with four roller pump is so smooth and quiet you can listen to the radio on an open station and watch the smoke roll!!

I can’t hear my grandkids!! I am sure a lot of that stems from running a D21 Allis with no muffler! Sounded good and as a teenager never thought about the future. I would put the muffler on!

Straight pipe, put the muffler on the shelf and wear earplugs!! I miss the 1206 that dad had. That 361 sounded great!!! But I only got to run it a couple of years before it left the farm. ?

Yeah I’m not sure?! The more I walked past it in the shop today I like the muffler, but I like the straight pipe as well?!
It doesn’t get used much anymore, and when it is I do wear ear plugs.  Decisions decisions?!?!??

I wouldn't have any tractor with a straight pipe for anything more than a short ride down the track . Too much hearing loss now. Been wearing ear plugs for 30 years, wish I had the first 10 years

Straight pipe for sure ( I prefer chrome ) and hang the muffler on the wall. Not a fan of mufflers at all.

I just got a new Thomure chrome straight pipe last spring when I was trying to get to Huron red power.
