I'm sure this has be answered to death over the years, just not good at searching for things.  What is the best way to convert a cub to 12v and where to get parts?

Use 12 volt battery, install ballast register in front of coil, change regulator to 12 volt, change lights to 12 volt, and go forward.

Gonna need a 12v generator or alternator too.

What is the reason for changing? If it is to cure hard starting your money would be way better spent fixing the problems rather than toggling something up to banaid them.

Generators will do what the regulator tells it to up to 28 volts

Well thats the truth and not sure 28 is a limit. Fact is that the field current required to produce 14 volts from a 6 volt generator will arc the points and in a short period of time the regulator will tell the generator nothing.
